The One Hour Ends

It was true when they said that fate is a funny thing. 

I had not come to this campus to right any wrongs nor was I here to get anyone justice, the only plan I had was that once the zombies vanish, I would search for Sam and bring her and her brother with me. I had already decided to build my own shelter and It was true that I would need some trustworthy people with me since everyone I knew were already dead. If I took her with me, then the bully incident would never happen and I would have nothing further to do with the boy who was now standing infront of me. 

Fate however had a different plan. As soon he saw me he began ordering me to hand over the chainsaw or else he would kill me and take it anyway. The group of ruffians also added to the nonsense by threatening me some more. Being a person who had survived for eight years in this hellish world, I had negligible amount of hesitation before taking a life, when compared to someone who had not had the same experience as me.

Seeing that I was not responding, he and the lackeys got angry and then suddenly the leader tried to establish his dominance by attacking me and all I could respond with was a slash of the chainsaw straight through his head. In the past hour I had did the same action so many times that I imitated it without even trying. The leader was dead and the rest were shocked, afraid and terrified to say the least. They all moved out of my way thinking that now that I had shown my power I would leave and they could save their skin by cowering. How naive.

I swung my chainsaw and ended every person of the group. Them standing in a line also helped. None of them were any good for anyone in an already dangerous world and now that they had given me a reason to end them, why would I hesitate. I moved past the mess and the only lingering thought I had about them was they had wasted two very precious minutes I had. 

I was massacring my way to the hostels situated at the back end of the campus. Yesterday after finishing my other preparations I had come here and enquired everything about Sam. It was fairly easy. I just had to convince a few students that I was a relative and knew that recently she had brought her brother to live here and I was here to convince them to come stay with us. After finding out everything, I scouted the entire campus and even personally confirmed the information I had obtained. 

The hostels however were a bit far from the campus and since I was delayed by those idiots I was only halfway to the hostels before the hour was done. 

Everyone still alive collapsed and I was no different.

I opened my eyes to the similar white space that I had seen the first time around. This was the space where us earthlings were finally given an explanation to the madness that had ensued suddenly. 

There was no cute mascot or a stunning A.I. or anyone with a physical presence to give us an explanation. There was only a voice that seemed to be coming right into our ears giving us the most basic of information. 

The voice finally spoke to me

" Welcome survivor, I congratulate you for being one of the braves to rise up to the threat and show initiative in dealing with it. Your total zombie kill count is 834. The terror you have experienced in the past hour was a type of one time bonus given to your planet. When you go back to your reality, the monsters would no longer be present. 

This does not mean that you are safe. You survivors will be given a week to get used to this apocalypse and prepare for your future. You can make any type of preparations in this week and once this week is over everything in the world except buildings and cold weapons will cease to exist. Your planet will go under a reset and be restored to its original state before humans. 

Everything from that moment on will be gained through your own efforts. If you wish for any natural resource, you have to physically go and get it from the wilderness. If you wish to grow stronger, you have to go and kill the zombies that would fill your planet soon. If you wish to live with enough freedom, the only way is to grow considerably stronger. 

The benefits of this bonus round are as follows:

> If you have killed ten or more zombies you are eligible for the awakening process.

> If you are ranked in the top ten-thousand of the kill count ranking globally, you will get an additional bonus of 0.1 percent of your kill count added to all your base stats.

> If you are ranked in the top hundred of the kill count ranking globally, you will get an additional bonus of 0.5 percent of your kill count added to all your base stats and a chance to unlock one special stat of your choosing.

> If you are ranked in the top ten of the kill count ranking globally, you will get an additional bonus of 1 percent of your kill count added to all your base stats, a chance to unlock one special stat of your choosing and a basic identification skill that can be used on everything below your level for three times a day. 

> If you are ranked third or second in the kill count ranking globally, you will get an additional bonus of 1 percent of your kill count added to all your base stats, a chance to unlock one special stat of your choosing, a basic identification skill that can be used on everything below your level for ten times a day and a superpower of your choosing with the potential to be upgraded by your own efforts. 

> if your are ranked first in the kill count ranking globally, you will get an additional bonus of 2 percent of your kill count added to all your base stats, a chance to unlock one special stat of your choosing, a basic identification skill that can be used on everything upto five levels above you for twenty times a day and a superpower of your choosing with the potential to be upgraded by your own efforts. "
