Apocalypse shelter - Swarg

A nobody who had barely done enough to survive in the apocalypse is killed and reborn a day before the apocalypse begins. Unlike other stories he had read, the apocalypse he faced was truly a cruel one. With a much more simple system and little to no help from that, he has already witnessed the state in which the humans had once been reduced to. Can he get up once again and face his nightmare? If he can, does he have the ability to change the bleak future that awaits humans. Warning : Not an overly fast evolving world like most apocalyptic novel. Everyone will have to fight with everything they have to progress and survive. The M.C. will have a higher growth rate but do not expect him to be overpowered.

SAM

The weapon I decided to use during my massacre in the orphanage were the various knives in the kitchen. I would make sure to get them sharpened when I go out today to gather more supplies. I could finish off more with multiple weapons and reduce the time required to finish the task on this site and move on to my next target location.

To secure a transport was the easiest task that I needed to complete in my list of preparations. The warden of the orphanage had a bike that he had just bought the previous month. He took utmost care of the bike and made sure that it was always in perfect condition with a full tank. Once I kill everyone, I could easily grab the keys from his pocket as he carried it around on him at all times.

My next stop would be the shopping mall nearest to our orphanage. After I had journeyed out the first time, I came to know that the mall was quarantined off despite having a large number of resources because of the large number of zombies that were crawling inside.

What had happened in the mall was that the security had responded to the zombies without understanding what was going on and when they got themselves killed, the remaining guards had shut every entry and exit to wait for backup. In the hour that followed, the people who were locked inside were either bitten or killed by the zombies and no one had survived. The guards themselves had run away seeing the commotion outside. In the week that followed, many people came to the mall but because the gates that were locked were so strong, they had to turn away. Once the week was over, the zombies returned to their initial positions and the empty mall was crawling with a large number of zombies as the people who were killed were also added to the mix.

The only issue was that I had to reach the mall before the guard ran off, in order to forcefully steal the keys to one of the staff entry points. It was going to be a race against time, and I did not know if I would reach there in time. In case I was not able to make there in time I had to select a backup location.

The place that I had decided on was the local government college. It had close to ten thousand students that were studying the various courses offered. The strongest shelter of our city in my previous life was built in this college. Apparently, one of the bullies had evolved and decided to set a base in the college by forcefully fortifying it with the help of his lackies. The shelter had only lasted for three months before another evolved killed him and destroyed the shelter. The bully seemingly was so drunk in his newfound power that he had ignored to check if anyone else had awakened. The other evolved had bid her time while building up her strength by risking her life for those three months. She had then left the city and the next time I heard her name was when she had ranked in the top three of the adventurer rankings six years later.

There was one thing that I knew about her that no one else apart from the evolved of our city knew. By the time she became famous, only I was left from the evolved of our city. I had no intention to build up non-existent camaraderie with her and therefore never revealed any information of me knowing her to anyone in my previous life. Her name was Sam or at least that was what it said on the leader board and what everyone called her during the shelter incident.

The reason she had chosen to become an adventurer when the opportunity was presented, was to save her little brother. Her parents had died in a car accident just a year ago and she had suddenly found herself with the responsibility of her brother as the eldest in her household. When the apocalypse hit, all she could think of was to take her brother somewhere safe. Unluckily for her, the bully had taken over the college campus and her brother had just arrived to spend the weekend with her. Afraid for his safety, she decided to choose the adventurer option. If she had decided to be a shelter owner, she would not have been able to live in someone else's shelter without notifying them and gaining their permission. The bully however was not someone reasonable and she did not wish to take any unnecessary risks with her brother's life.

One day when she was out killing zombies, someone leaked her identity of being an awakened to the bully in exchange for some short-term benefits. Feeling a sense of threat from someone who was actively getting stronger while he stayed idly enjoying the benefits of having a little bit of power, he quickly captured her weakness, her brother. When she was returning back to the shelter, she noticed the increased number of lackeys on the gate and got suspicious. While she slowed down her pace, the lackeys noticed her arrival and started to attack her.

After killing most of the lackeys she was able to understand what had transpired behind her back and her brothers capture by the bully. She went mad with rage and attacked with all her might. The bully came to know of her destructive advancement towards him and understood that he could never win and in a last act of madness of his own, he killed her brother. By the time she arrived to where the bully resided, her brother had died, and his head was being held in the hands of the bully. She killed the bully easily and then demolished his shelter.

The last act of her before departing from the city was to give her brother a burial in the same Cemetry as her parents. Many people requested her to stay in the city and expressed their intentions to follow her. She however did not even bother responding and departed.

Her name was Sam or at least that's what she had decided to name herself after the apocalypse.
