Chapter 97: Leaving Blackstone Town
It's easy to contact them via radio, but the challenge lies in how to get there.
"How's the truck modification going?"
"We're reinforcing it right now; it should be done in the next couple of days."
When they say modification, they actually mean reinforcing the critical parts of the vehicle.
This is to prevent the vehicle from getting wrecked when encountering a horde of zombies.
It's all done with welding, nothing too difficult, and doesn't require internal parts modification.
Military vehicles aren't likely to be of poor quality anyway.
Wu Heng thought for a moment and said, "Alright, finish the modifications first, and I'll let you know when it's time to go."
Tomorrow, he would be leaving Blackstone Town for a new city.
It's outside the Kingdom of Yeco, so it's definitely not close.
It's better to wait until he's settled in there before heading to the prison.
The timing between the two should be staggered a bit.
"Okay!" Li Yanhong nodded.
"How are the new recruits from yesterday?" Wu Heng continued to ask.
"They're doing well, willing to work, but they were starving, so meal times were a bit intense," Li Yanhong said.
"Hmm, don't delay the production of iron spears either."
"Alright!"
After finishing the conversation, Li Yanhong returned to the auto repair shop.
Wu Heng then made some simple arrangements for the skeletons.
He reinforced the defenses within the residential area, and Big Head Skeleton's patrol range was limited to the vicinity of the residential area and the auto repair shop.
He wanted to ensure nothing would go wrong while he was on the road.
...…
In the afternoon, he returned to Blackstone Town.
He headed to the Adventurer's Guild and walked straight into the team's lounge.
The team members were all present.
Otruluk looked up and asked, "When are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow," Wu Heng replied, sitting down beside him.
Otruluk nodded, "Once you've settled down there, applying for a transfer back shouldn't be difficult."
"Understood, Captain."
"You'll be a captain soon, too. Then you can experience the frustration of never seeing your team members," Otruluk joked.
"When I'm a captain, I probably won't even go to the guild myself, let alone the team members," Wu Heng said with a smile.
Otruluk smiled back.
He continued, "Kavina's being transferred within the kingdom, so there shouldn't be too many issues. Come back and visit when you can."
"Kavina's being transferred too?"
Kavina nodded, "Yes, to another small town nearby. I can still come back to visit everyone occasionally."
When Slater called her earlier, she suspected she might be transferred too.
It seemed Yazde intended to break up Team Four entirely.
Kavina was one or two years older than Wu Heng, and becoming a captain at her age was considered quite fast.
"Becoming a captain is a good thing. You two shouldn't feel too much pressure. Besides, our Team Four is really impressive, being the latest team formed and already producing two captains," Otruluk said with a smile.
"So, Team Four is down to just the two of us," Yuli said.
"There will be new members soon."
"Oh, I hope I can become a captain soon too," Yuli muttered.
"It shouldn't be hard for you," Wu Heng said after hearing her.
Slater is her aunt, so it's only a matter of time before she becomes a captain.
After chatting for a while, Wu Heng took out a few items from his backpack and placed them on the table.
He explained, "I'm leaving, so I'm leaving these for you. They might come in handy during a fight."
Everyone looked over at the items.
Wu Heng explained, "This is a gas mask that can protect against most toxins without side effects, and this is a flashlight that can emit a beam of light, useful at night."
One was a gas mask, and the other was a flashlight.
The flashlight had battery requirements but could be used for a while.
"These are too valuable," Otruluk immediately said.
These two items were definitely on par with magical equipment, and everyone got two of each.
"I don't need that many, so you guys use them first. If the flashlight runs out of power, don't throw it away; I'll replace the batteries when I get the chance."
"Thanks."
"Thank you," Kavina said.
Yuli added, "Wow, you're only giving these out now? I got poisoned back then because of that!"
"If you don't want it, give it back."
"Who said I didn't want it?" Yuli quickly hid it behind her back.
After chatting with the team members for a while,
Wu Heng made a visit to the 'Blushing Mermaid' tavern.
When Beni saw Wu Heng come in, she immediately approached him with a tray.
Her attitude was much warmer than last time. She sat beside him on the sofa, leaning close and hooking her arm around his, "It's been a while since you came."
"Yeah, I'm leaving, so I came to give you the payment from last time."
Wu Heng slipped a small bag of silver coins into her hand.
Beni didn't refuse, but her brow furrowed, "Leaving? Where to?"
"I've been transferred somewhere else."
"Will you come back?"
Recently, people in the tavern were still discussing the rescue of the children from the crowded area.
Such things were never cared about before.
The guards would make a cursory investigation and then leave it at that.
So, the fact that the adventurer team rescued the children from the crowded area became a topic of discussion.
Beni felt like she had done something meaningful by providing the clues.
She hadn't expected Wu Heng to be transferred so soon.
"Maybe, I'm not sure."
Beni looked at him and asked, "Do you have to go?"
"The transfer orders have already been issued; I can't not go."
"Sigh~! Alright then."
"If I come back, I'll visit you again."
"Okay, you better not forget that," Beni said seriously.
After leaving the tavern, Wu Heng went to say goodbye to his landlord.
He didn't know many people in Blackstone Town, so he managed to say goodbye to everyone in a day.
...…
The next day, in the morning.
XC District, train station.
The entire adventurer team came, along with many people from the crowded area, including the landlord, Mrs. Brookmelov, who had her child rescued, and Beni.
Quite a few people showed up.
There were also some curious onlookers who didn't know if they were here to welcome someone or see someone off.
The crowd formed several layers around the platform.
Wu Heng hadn't expected so many people to come see him off.
Slater crossed her arms, looking at him, and said, "Who would've thought a necromancer like you would be so popular."
"Not bad, right?"
"Keep a low profile over there. I'll transfer you back in two years," Slater said.
"Alright, I got it. Keep an eye on the crowded area for me."
"Hmm!" Slater nodded.
The train arrived, and Wu Heng waved goodbye to everyone as he boarded.
Rumble, rumble~!
Amid the rumbling, he left Blackstone Town as the train sped away.
The train was much faster than a carriage.
After traveling for two days, the train stopped at the border of the Kingdom of Yeco. Someone said, "Honored emissaries, you'll need to disembark here. Continue north, and you'll reach Rentam City."
Damn, I have to switch transportation.
Wu Heng got off the train, bought a carriage, and continued heading north.
Although it was daytime, the surroundings gradually became desolate.
Wu Heng didn't feel very safe. He didn't know how far it was, and if any wild beasts or bandits appeared, it would be dangerous.
He thought about summoning more skeletons to ensure his safety.
Standing on the carriage, he looked around.
In one direction, he could vaguely see a building with walls.
Wu Heng directed Barson to drive the carriage toward the building to take a closer look.
If there was no danger, he would use the gate to bring more skeletons over.
As the carriage approached, he saw it was an enclosed courtyard with a temple at the center.
The walls were weathered, indicating it had been there for a long time.
The carriage stopped in front of the courtyard, and without asking if anyone was there, Wu Heng headed toward the woodshed on one side.
Before he could get close,
Creak~!
The temple's door opened, and a nun dressed in a black and white habit stepped out.
The habit was made of thin fabric, revealing the delicate curves of her body. Even the veil was made of especially thin material, allowing glimpses of her golden hair.
The high slit at the hem exposed her smooth hips and thighs.
"Are you here to pray, gentlemen?"
The nun swayed her hips as she took two steps forward.
Her figure was full and voluptuous, her demeanor seductive and alluring.
Paired with her habit, she stirred a wave of emotions in those who looked at her.
