Chapter 30
“You did real well. Why don’t you finish the job?” He took his own bowl and drank the remaining cereal from it, then set it in front of him. “Like that.”
He grinned when Cody upped the bowl and downed the remaining cereal. Cody looked embarrassed.
“You did a good job on the cereal, mister. How does your tummy feel?”
“Full, Peter, it kinda hurts a bit. I don’t eat cereal much. Uncle Russell said I had to go to your clinic today. I’m scared a bit but I won’t cry, so please don’t hit me. I can be brave.”
Peter mussed his hair. “We don’t hit one another around here, partner. We’re going to do what we do with all our patients. Russell can be with you if you want. The worst part will be when we poke your arm to take some blood. It feels like a little pinch. Will that be okay for you?”
“I’m okay, I won’t cry. Mom always told me to be quiet if someone hurt me. She said she was going away for a while. Last time she went at Christmas and came back in summer. Will she be gone that long?”
