“Please wait, we need to make sure this is done properly. I’ll call my boss—he’s a lawyer, and he can come to take care of things at arm’s length.”
Rosie nodded and Russell immediately called his boss. Within fifteen minutes, Mr. Sharpe arrived, heard the story, and made some notes. He’d needed Rosie to sign some documents, which she was willing to do. He checked her identification and they completed the process. Winston Sharpe took this one personally assured Russell he and Peter would be wards to the child before the sun set. He guaranteed it.
Russell gave Rosie all the cash he had on hand to help her get to where she felt she needed to be. He also begged her to keep in contact with her son. His boss shook his hand and left with Rosie as reality hit Russell between the eyes.
