CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

Josie McMillan

JOSIE WAS WATCHING all four televisions at once, the first a movie, the second a few moments with her son, the third some ballet performances and the fourth one that was baffling her, it was her pornographic movies.

The physical person on those screens was her, but the features on her face were driving her even crazier, she couldn't explain if her alter ego was demonized or if it was the demon itself.

Josie lost herself in the countless hours she spent in that room strapped in a straitjacket watching her entire life on those screens. When she started to doze off, she had terrible nightmares with screams of despair and pleasure.

Upon waking up, it all started again.

Seeing Jacqueline in action astounded Josie, at first she didn't want to believe there was a person inside her, but now... her life was upside down.

It's not possible, God... why I... why?

AFTER A FEW DAYS, Josie realized that it was useless to scream, every time she tried to scream for help, the volume of the four televisions together increased to an almost unbearable height for a human being.

Josie was almost out of strength from hunger and tiredness from trying to untie herself from the straitjacket when one of the walls shifted, she didn't know if it was real or an imagination.

— Tony?

Anthony smiled kindly.

— Why, Tony? — Desperate alarmed — why all this?

— Don't you remember anything?'

— Remember what?

— You tried to kill me...

— It wasn't me, it was...

— Jacqueline? You two are the same person, Jacqueline is just a repressed part of you, a defense you've created against something or someone... right now, I believe I'm the cause of this transformation.

— I came here to see if you were all right...

— I am hungry.

Anthony turned around, pulled out a tray and fed Josie. When finished, she asked:

— I still don't understand why I'm here...

— Why? The answer is simple: when Jacqueline takes control for good, I will kill her...

Suddenly, the room was invaded by police.

— Anthony Melthow? You are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent and anything you say will be used against you in court.

Anthony raised his hands and allowed himself to be handcuffed without a hitch.

— I believe you're making a mistake, officer.

The policeman untied Josie and realized that she was still alive.

— Glad we got there in time, Sergeant.

— God only knows what would happen to the poor thing if we took any longer.
