CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

Mark Conely

MARK WENT TO VISIT JOSIE, she looked like she had been hit by a train, it took over three hours to wake up.

— I'm glad you're here.

— I could never be anywhere but by your side.

— And Guillian?

— He's fine, he's rehearsing for the show, he's going to open my show.

— That's wonderful news.

MARK WAITED for Josie's recovery for the show to come to fruition, and seeing her son was the most impactful emotion Josie could dream of in her life, she wanted to run and hug him, but Mark held her back:

— It's the biggest moment of his life, you can wait just a little bit.

Josie knew he was right, but looking to the side, Anthony appeared in handcuffs surrounded by police.

— What are you doing here? — Josie said in fury.

— I invited him — declared Mark calmly — regardless of anything, he is Guillian's father, he was the one who promoted this show, I'm sure it will be more relaxed to see him in the audience.

MARK WAS CRYING seeing his son for the first time, the boy was playing on stage where he was going to play a show in a few minutes. His son faced the crowd as if they were his closest friends.

Anthony was standing next to Mark watching him and even in a wheelchair he looked so happy that Anthony wished in his heart that he was Mark right now.

— I wanted to apologize — Anthony said.

— Whereby?

— For putting him in a wheelchair.

— It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Forget the past, we all have something to be ashamed of.

Anthony couldn't understand that smile of happiness that came out on Mark's face, it was impossible...

— If it weren't for you — Mark continued — I would still be trapped in an illusion until today, Josie was always a ghost that haunted me, but today I live a reality.

— But...

— Look at this… see what true love can do.

Mark leaned into his wheelchair and with a superhuman effort managed to get to his feet.

— My God... you...

Anthony asked permission and went to hug his friend.

— I don't... Marina... she did a miracle.

AFTER THE SHOW ENDED, Mark didn't attend to anyone in his dressing room, his attention exclusively on Guillian.

— Guillian — said Anthony — this is Mark Conely, my best friend...
