It was the body of Orion that Ember had discovered unconscious there. When Orion had run away from Terence and Ai, he had already been seriously wounded, and with subsequent loss of blood and suffering from both internal and external wounds, he was finally knocked down here. But like there is hope even in the darkest of tunnels, his being slumped here protected him from the latest turmoil of the planet.
Either by luck or by some other factor, Orion managed to evade the disaster triggered by the old gods on the whole planet till now. It was an extraordinary thing when more than thirty powerful Conjurers perished in a sudden catastrophe launched by the Old Gods. He, a weak unconscious conjurer, managed to survive through it entirely unharmed.
