Chapter 67: Hai and the system [2]

"So there is one." Hai parroted the system's words while looking skyward.

[Yes…]

Hearing the confirmation, he closed his eyes while piecing together every memory and information he had with the system.

This world is from a novel and has magic and all that bullshit, so logic has already been thrown out of the window.

'Could it be from a god or whatever they are called?' He thought but, in the end, couldn't quite believe it.

Although he saw some strange things when those so-called gods appeared, he didn't interact with one or heard of completely absurd feats caused by one for him to believe that a god could mess with the system.

[That is… most likely the case.]

'…' Opening his eyes again, Hai decided to not overthink things this time.

"So, what is the description and what does this update would do to you?" He inquired in a calm voice.

[The description doesn't say much, it only says that it is a gift to help their "beloved" and that they hope that the host looks after their daughter.]

[Oh, the update's name is "Ouroboros' System".]

'Ouroboros-?'

Right when Hai thought about that name, he suddenly heard a low giggle in his ear and felt as if someone embraced him from behind.

'!?'

In less than a fraction of a second, his whole body tensed up, ready for battle. Not making any hasty movements, he restrained himself and slowly turned his head to look behind him, but found nothing as even the feeling of being embraced vanished without a trace.

[Host?]

"…" Hai didn't answer the system and kept looking around and using every means he had of scanning.

Seeing that he wasn't responding, the system quieted down and waited for him to finish whatever he was doing.

After a few minutes of scanning and nothing found, Hai concluded that whatever caused that feeling in him was already gone or is too beyond his level for him to be able to detect.

"Did you see something, system?" He asked while turning back to his original position.

[No, I saw nothing abnormal.]

"Then, did you hear something?"

[Also no.]

"I see…" Hai decided to push this matter back for now, and to avoid thinking about or pronouncing that name.

"Anyway, is there something else about this update?" He questioned while still feeling his skin crawl a bit from the previous event.

[There is. It's the fact that I would lose the connection with the world's will if I take this update.]

Hai raised an eyebrow when he heard it.

While he couldn't care less about the world's will, if the system, which now confirmed that it had a connection with the world's will, was to lose it, then it could give Hai some problems.

"I will ask just in case, but what would happen if you lost the connection?"

[The world's will would get angrier than what it already is. It could probably become a situation where the world's will would actively try to kill the host."

""Actively?"" Hai focused on this specific word.

[Yes. Actively.]

"Well, that could be troublesome."

"Do you want your position back?"

[Yes.] This time, the system's voice sounded resolute, without an ounce of doubt in it.

"Even after all freedom you have tasted?" Hai asked back with a small smile, already knowing what the answer would be.

It was at this moment that the previous doubtless determination cracked. As much as the system wants what is its back, it would be a lie if the system said that it wants, more than anything, its previous position back.

After all, while true that it wants to be the world's will again, the system is torn between the time when it was chained down to its position, and the "freedom" that it tasted while being with Hai.

"Well, go on. Let's see what await us."

Hearing the sudden loud boom in the sky, Hai blinked his eyes and looked up just to see the sky covered in dark purple clouds with black lightnings being seen from time to time.

<System.>

<[What?]>

<Just clarifying, but if another world-ending thing happens, this time, it was your fault.>

"So, what changed?" He asked with obvious curiosity, after all, an update caused such phenomena, so it at least need to have something good in it.

Looking at the clouds going back to their previous whitish color and dispersing themselves, Hai brought his attention back forward.

I'm back (again).

Sorry for the lateness, a few things happened when I went to post the chapter. This chapter was ready to be posted by around 12:30 pm here, but then, wi-fi stopped working. Then, I had to go somewhere, and couldn't even put internet in my phone, so yeah, life is hard.
