Chapter 66: Hai and the system [1]

After some time, Hong Li-Wei eventually fell asleep in Hai's embrace.

"…" Silently looking at the pink-haired woman in his arms, Hai's lips arced upwards before he kissed her forehead.

Taking out his phone, he unlocked the screen before accessing his contacts.

'Since I'm going to use my emergency plan, I will need a new team.' Hai's plan this time around is simple:

Fire, fire, fire, and more fire. Then, finish them.

A simple plan.

As he needs enough power not only to fight the big players, but also the world's will, he is first going to need to become a force to not be messed with.

This is the first part of his plan.

'Let's see…' Hai kept scrolling down the list of contacts, but he couldn't find many that would be useful right now.

As Ye Chen by his typical heavenly's luck got The Phoenix's support or cooperation due to whatever reason, Hai can't do much in the China Federation as a whole. Hence, most of his contacts, corporations, and manpower are currently unusable, at least on an international scale.

'Ah… there are them…' Hai's thoughts trailed off as he remembered a few very capacitated people to be part of his team.

'Though…' The only problem was what they did in the past.

"…" Silently looking at the phone's screen, he wondered what he should do in this case.

Pick people he already knows but has problems with, or try to gather a team from scratch.

'What a marvelous start…' He wryly smiled at how he already started well in his plan.

'Meh, I will think about it tomorrow.' He willed his mana and controlled the mist he was laying in to go to the bedroom.

As morning came and the sun rose in the coldness of the ice desert surrounding the mountain in which the Paradise Palace is in, Hai opened his eyes to a new morning.

"Hum. Morning. Hai." Kryn spoke with her usual expressionless face while poking his cheek.

Hai blinked his eyes before looking back at Kryn with amusement in them.

"Morning, Kryn." Hai replied before hugging her.

"…" Kryn was surprised by the sudden action, but remained silent and enjoyed the hug with a small tinge of redness coloring her cheeks.

[Oyah~ Is someone embarrassed?] And Laila's message didn't help her.

Kryn just looked at the message and turned away.

'Bad. Laila.'

[(┬┬﹏┬┬) I was joking.]

Hai meanwhile just kept hugging her and ignored her unresponsiveness.

"Good morning, young master." Elena's voice brought his attention away from Kryn.

"Morning, honey." He sweetly smiled before greeting her back.

Then, he looked around and noticed that everyone else was missing.

"They were summoned by lady Akame to train." Elena quickly explained to him when she noticed his confusion.

"Oh, so that was it. What about Kryn and you?" He questioned while getting up and holding Kryn so she wouldn't fall.

"We were waiting for you to wake up, young master." She answered while getting up from bed and changing her clothes with magic.

"Hum. Back. Later." Kryn added and also got up.

Hai smiled at them.

"Have a good training, you two." He said to them.

Both Elena and Kryn turned back and nodded before vanishing from where they were.

Ignoring how Akame took both of them away like it was nothing, Hai also got up and started to tidy up the bed.

'Let's see… If Akame didn't say anything to me, then this most likely means that I would need to digest the gains from yesterday, so probably, no train for today. This will allow me to do other things too.' As he finished tidying up the bed, he walked toward the back of the mansion and took out another fruit from his storage ring.

Taking out his phone, he looked at the date and decided to check out the situation at the African Association.

'Hum… Oh, I will try it.' Hai tapped on the digital keyboard and searched for "Ye Chen".

Not even a second later, several results showed up and Hai couldn't help but smile wryly.

"Breaking news: Mercenary group led by "the Dragon King" raze several slums to the ground in one night."

"Dragon King Ye Chen kill millions."

"Ye Chen as well known as Dragon King is being accused of war crimes."

Those and several other titles were the results of his search.

'It seems that without the world's will, Ye Chen could win the competition of most hated person without even putting in effort.' Hai kept a calm smile while looking through the results and checking on some sites before putting his phone away.

Arriving at the back of the mansion, the place where he and the girls played before, Hai made a simple seat made of ice and sat down.

Picking one grape, he tossed it inside his mouth.

'So, Ye Chen is getting hate from some part of the media, but as he is one of the protagonists, he should be gaining something out of it. Probably some big shots or hidden forces would notice him and contact him in the future.' This is something that Hai has observed several times with the protagonists, no matter how stupidly bad the situation is, they always get something good out of it, and sometimes, even in a hardly possible or outright impossible way.

'Now, thinking about it, wasn't there also a protagonist in the African Association?' A sly smile appeared on his face.

'This could be interesting.' Hai was quite curious to see if two protagonists could clash and if yes, then how would the world's will react?

'But that is for later.' He shook his head before closing his eyes.

For now, he needed to at least make some progress with his magic. He already pushed this back more than he would have liked.

Focusing on clearing his thoughts, Hai soon found his mind empty.

Nothing, not even the unconscious thoughts of describing one's senses were present in his mind.

This was something he learned in his past life during the time when he was training with monks.

As he immersed himself in this feeling of calmness, he soon started to guide where he wanted his mind to go.

'Magic.' Starting with something simpler, he gave himself a goal.

'Fight.'

'Ye Chen.'

As he immersed himself in his memories, he started to replay them like a movie right before his eyes.

Looking back at the fight with Ye Chen, everything went smoothly.

He had no problems fighting him, his group, or even Nirvana.

However, he wasted too much mana on simple things.

Him freezing his enemies.

The bullets.

Everything was done perfectly in terms of precision and timing, however, he used enough mana to do everything at least three times over.

Even now, he is still learning how to better control the mana he currently has.

'Aside from mana training, it's about time for me to develop a new martial style.'

One thing that Hai doesn't mention often is that he is always greatly bothered by the lack of new martial arts to learn.

He was firstly too busy with the plot, so he didn't have much time for it.

Then, he got free time and searched about it just to discover that there wasn't much difference from the ones he knows. It seems that with the advance of technology and the addition of mana/ aura, people slowly let go of things like martial arts since they weren't exactly useful anymore in a battle where someone could pull a trigger and end one's life or destroy someone to oblivion with one spell or reinforced hit.

And due to the disparity in power, martial arts rarely came in hand as mana or aura could make situations where it would even be impossible to come close enough to use them.

In short, Hai has always been restricting himself while fighting in close combat due to his body.

He is at such a level that it wouldn't be too far off to say that martial arts are almost obsolete to him since except for Chris and some other beings, he pretty much is faster and stronger than everyone else, hence, he didn't really need to use martial arts in combat.

And he doesn't like it at all.

Martial art is a hobby and something he really enjoys, so he, of course, wouldn't want to forget them simply due to him being stronger than a normal human.

And this brought a new problem to him: He doesn't know how to create a martial art that is useful to the current him.

He studied several martial arts on Earth and can even invent new styles by combining already existing ones, however, this becomes more complicated when it comes to mana and other things.

He has to consider and incorporate mana in the style and create moves that actually work in real fights.

And he has never created a martial art while he was able to freeze enemies, create and manipulate metal, and jump from one building to another.

Bringing his focus back to the fight, he decided to start working on this new martial art from today onwards.

As he kept going through the fight, he noticed more and more flaws to the point he wanted to kick his past self.

'I depended on luck…' This thought was the conclusion he had when analyzing the last part of the fight.

He received a boost right before the fight, and this boost was enough for him to fight, even if for a brief time, with that higher being that possessed Ye Chen.

Then, there was the fact that he successfully exercised his will and held off that pressure. Hai didn't train his will that much as he just passively used it from time to time, so what are the chances of him having enough mastery on it to fight off that pressure with only it?

Not to mention how he froze the shards of the space they were in and even the area around it.

The more he analyzed it, the more he noticed how absurd it looked.

'I guess this is what having Heaven-defying luck is like.' Hai opened his eyes again and put the grapes away.

'What should I do?' He wondered for a bit before a random idea made its way to his mind.

'System.'

[Yes, host?]

'Do you have a shop function or something like that?' Hai asked as he was never much interested in the system, so even if it did have such a function, he normally would have ignored it.

[Host, unfortunately, I don't have a shop function.]

"…" Hai's face turned plain when he heard it. He didn't believe the system.

'So, you meant to say, that you can give me rewards that sometimes, don't even exist in this world, but you don't have a damn shop?'

[…]

'…'

[Yes…]

Hai's eyebrow twitched.

'Okay, okay. Do you at least have an update or something like that? We are already beyond the supposed "end" that I was to reach.' He asked because, after some point in time, the system stopped giving him rewards due to him reaching the end of his role, hence, the check-in didn't work anymore.

[Actually…]

'Hum?'

[There is… one.]
