I was sick in bed for three days, but no doctor came. In the end, they didn't tell the King. I felt relieved though.
'I don't want to call the King's attention, just now that I learned how to use magic!'
And, it's not just any magic, it is light magic! One of the most powerful magic in this world.
There are seven magic elements: fire, water, air, earth, light, darkness, and lightning.
Light and darkness are the most powerful magic in this world, but they are the rarest as well.
But, unlike light magic, dark magic is not… well seen.
The people from this world call dark magic the magic of destruction. Just because there were dark magic users who brought chaos and destruction in the past. In the last two world wars of this world, there was a dark mage behind them.
They say that all dark mages are cursed.
Because of that, dark magic users are all mistreated, there are even nations that kill children just because they were born with dark magic. At least here in Arhan, it doesn't happen.
Just thinking about it gives me chills. If I was born a dark mage and a bastard I would definitely be killed.
'I couldn't be luckier than being born a light mage, because besides being a rare magic, maybe if the King decides to kill me one day, if I tell him that I am a light mage, he probably won't kill me, right?'
Since I got better from my sickness, every night I've been training my magic, learning how to use it without passing out again. I've read many magic books from the small northwest library, but, none can teach how to use light magic, they say that only the Arhan's royal family knows how light magic works.
But, it's not like I can ask anyone from the royal family to teach me.
So I've been trying my best all by myself. At least now I can control my magic a little bit. But, I barely can make a light ball last longer than a few seconds.
'If I want to run away from here and become an adventurer I must be better than that!'
That thought was what motivated me for this whole year. I am eight years old now.
Every day I have tried my best, not just at my magic, but at my studies as well.
After the incident one year ago, Lena stopped punishing me as much as she did back then, but still, because of her, now I have many scars on my hands.
Now Lena doesn't teach me anymore, after a year she said that I did well and I've mastered already basic social etiquette. I thought I would have a tutor to teach me something else, history, math, something like that, but no one came.
Now I pass most of my days alone.
I don't see Lena anymore, and I just see the maids when they bring me my meals.
That relieves me, though. The hate they feel towards me is mutual. I hate being close to them.
Probably they think I am already old enough to be left alone. That I don't need anyone to keep an eye on me anymore.
'Though I would be better left alone in the woods than staying with them.' I thought, mad.
Now I pass most of my days in my room or in the library now. If I am not studying I am training my magic.
I've read most of the books from the library already.
In my past life, I could learn about something anytime using my cellphone, but now, the only source of knowledge that I have in this world are books.
I don't know where I heard that "knowledge is power", but I think it is true. I would know nothing about this world if I didn't read books.
About my magic, I've mastered as much as I could.
I know now how to control it, but I still don't know how to make any offensive magic. There is no way I can try offensive magic if there is nowhere I can train.
If I tried inside the palace and broke something I would be in trouble. And I can't go outside in the garden however I want, I need permission and I always have someone watching me.
But, at least I can use defensive magic like light barriers, though I don't know how strong they are. I've never used it in a fight after all.
The only useful magic I can do now is that I can read at night without a candle, using my magic I can make a small ball of light so I can read.
And that is just lame.
"Is there anything cool that I can do without breaking something?" I asked myself.
'Well, If I am not wrong, light magic is not just about generating light, but also manipulating it...'
Then I had an idea.
"If I can manipulate magic then I can manipulate what people see!" I exclaimed, excited.
We can only see everything around us because light reflects them.
'So maybe, with my magic, I can make things invisible or even create illusions!'
I was at the library sitting on one of the chairs with a book in front of me on the table. So I decided to try making this book invisible.
All this time I've been conjuring light, I've never tried to manipulate it.
And I shouldn't have to say that it didn't work. I passed almost ten minutes like an idiot staring at a book with my hands standing in front of it.
But, I still tried again and again.
Something that I learned in this world about magic is that you can't stop trying until you succeed.
And thanks to that, hours later, I made it.
I made the book become invisible. It just lasted for a few seconds, but it made me so happy!
I was so excited that I tried it again and again, at everything!
I made an entire bookshelf invisible, it didn't last long but it was so cool.
I noticed that bigger objects are harder to make invisible, but small objects are easier, and they can stay invisible longer as well.
It was an amazing discovery. But I still needed to improve if I want to make this useful.
It took me three months to master that magic. In the beginning, it was hard to make something invisible for more than a minute, but now it's as easy as breathing, I can make something stay invisible for as long as I want.
It surprises me how fast I learn, by myself, without any tutor.
'Maybe it's because of my wish before getting reincarnated. I asked to be good at magic after all.' I realized.
But making things invisible it's not just the only thing that I learned.
'I can make myself invisible as well!'
Actually, it's pretty weird using that magic on myself, because I can't be sure if I am invisible. Though, I know that I am using my magic, I can't be one hundred percent sure if I am invisible or not. I can still see myself, I just know that it's working when the people around me don't notice me.
At first, I tried to get invisible around the maids, while they were bringing my meal, but I realized that they always treated me like I was invisible. They never even care if I was in my room or not, they just put the plates on the table and then they get out of the room.
So I had to try again, but this time I would be sure if it worked or not.
I made myself invisible again and tried to leave the northwest area, passing through the guards.
None of them noticed me.
I won't deny, I got tempted to leave the palace for real. But first I was still a child, and living in the streets can be pretty hard, even more for a kid. Second, was that I didn't know how long I could stay invisible. I didn't know what could happen to me if in the middle of my escape my magic stopped and someone saw me.
'But now I decided to explore the palace!' I thought, excited.
I still didn't know how long my magic can last on me, but my curiosity was bigger than my fears.
For eight years I've never left the northwest area. The only place I could go was the garden close to the northwest area, far away from the people's sight.
'Now that I can, I have to explore this castle! Technically I am a prince, though no one recognise me as such... Still, I should know more about this place before leaving, right?'
After gathering a lot of courage, I left the northwest area. Just as the last time, the guards didn't notice me again. What made me feel relieved.
I walked through the long corridors for some time, but I didn't find anyone.
Probably that is why the King placed me in the northwest area, there was no one close.
I tried to look through the many doors in the hallways, looking for something interesting, but all of them were closed.
It took me more than half an hour to find people. That was the moment I realized how big was the palace.
The people were all servants doing their duty, but for some reason that made me happy. It was good to see new faces after so long.
I kept walking through the hallways, I was still curious. I wanted to see more.
'I want to see more of the palace, more people, and maybe... The royal family too.'
"Ouch!"
But, then suddenly, I bumped into someone when I was turning the corner of the hallway and I fell to the ground.
When I opened my eyes I saw a boy a bit older than me accompanied by maids. He was wearing fancy clothes, he had silver hair and golden eyes that were looking towards me.
'Is that boy… My brother?!'
