Lines of colorful text bubbles disappeared quickly, each indicating a surge in Orion's luck value. Orion eyes gleamed with satisfaction as he watched his luck value climb steadily.
Orion was brimming with energy, his movements swift and purposeful. Each locust he dispatched added to his growing fortune. One locust provided 0.2 luck value, a small increment that, multiplied by hundreds, promised substantial returns.
"The efficiency is too slow!" Orion muttered to himself, frustration evident in his voice. "It seems that I have to study the basic structure of modern firearms during the day and try to create a magic Gatling gun or some explosives!"
His eyes lit up with determination. Despite the challenge posed by the swarm of locusts, Orion remained undeterred. He knew that mastering advanced weaponry could significantly enhance his combat prowess.
Snap!
Orion dispersed the mystic spear, transforming its magical energy into a nine-section whip. The purple light emitted from the whip flashed and crackled, creating a barrier of swirling energy that repelled the relentless locusts. Their sharp hisses filled the air, but they were no match for the ferocity of Orion's magical whip.
The locusts, overwhelmed by the sudden assault, shattered into pieces. Their fragmented bodies fell to the ground, wings and tendons broken beyond repair.
"Won't the locusts also have a queen?" Orion pondered aloud, his gaze shifting to a crooked tree nearby.
There, on the trunk, lay a nest. From its entrance, a constant stream of locusts emerged, their wings buzzing with aggression as they aimed for Orion once more.
His pressure increased exponentially. Although he had mastered the basic use of his mystical weapon, he had yet to delve into its more advanced capabilities involving high-level elemental material changes. Furthermore, his magical reserves were dwindling, and fatigue began to set in.
"Shit!" Orion cursed under his breath, his frustration mounting. "No mana!"
His eyes narrowed in determination. He knew he couldn't afford to delay any longer.
In an instant, Orion summoned a surge of immense magical power, igniting his body in a brilliant blaze of flames. The explosion of energy obliterated the strange locusts within a ten-foot radius, leaving no trace of their existence.
But Orion wasn't finished. With precise control, he directed the residual energy towards the nest of locusts, unleashing a secondary explosion that obliterated it instantly. Even the elusive queen insect, yet to reveal itself, was buried under the force of the blast.
A series of notifications echoed in Orion's ears:
\[Kill the weird queen insect\]
\[Luck value +25\]
"Nice!" Orion exclaimed triumphantly. "Luck value +25! With what the weird locusts provided, I've made a small fortune this time!"
His joy was palpable. Orion's luck value had surpassed the 300 mark, with approximately 150 points contributed solely by the weird locusts.
\[Name\]: Orion
\[Identity\]: Formal Mage
\[Talent\]: God of Learning (blue), Grandmaster (blue), Self-taught (blue), Good Luck in Distress (green), Prepare to become mysterious entity (black), Convict of Holding a Treasure (black).
\[Luck Value\]: 365.9
"Tsk!" Orion clicked his tongue in satisfaction. "This was worth my ultimate move! With 300 points of luck, I can not only upgrade [Good Luck in Distress], but also spin the talent wheel once!"
Excitement coursed through him as he planned his next moves. Orion knew exactly how he wanted to utilize his newfound luck value.
"To upgrade [Good Luck in Distress], I'll allocate 100 points of luck," he mused aloud. "The remaining 200 points will be used to spin the talent lottery wheel."
Saving? Not a chance. To Orion, the mysterious dimension was akin to his exclusive private server game. With nightly harvests of luck value, there was no need for restraint.
Moreover, his goal extended beyond mere accumulation; Orion aimed to upgrade all his talent entries to gold quality. He envisioned the spectacular effects that awaited once each talent reached its peak potential.
"And those superhero and supervillain entry panels in the play must be incredibly stunning," Orion speculated. "When I become the guardian sorcerer of the New York Temple, I must examine Tony Stark's entry panel!"
"Let's not attract other beasts..." he cautioned himself. "I should hurry back to the safe zone."
Orion surveyed his surroundings, ears tuned to the rustling sounds echoing in the distance. Without hesitation, he retreated swiftly to the designated safe zone, aided by the concealed magic array that rendered his presence virtually undetectable.
"Huh." Orion sighed with relief, the tension easing from his shoulders. He summoned his entry panel without delay.
\[Do you want to use the luck value for [Good Luck in Distress] (Green)?\]
"OK!" Orion responded eagerly, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
In an instant, a brilliant light engulfed him.
\[Good Luck in Distress\] (Green) evolved into \[Good Luck After Misfortune\] (Blue).
\[Good Luck After Misfortune\] (Blue): When you are in trouble, you can always receive aid from noble individuals, and the goddess of luck will always bless you.
"When I'm in trouble, I can count on help from noble people?" Orion mused aloud, intrigued by the implications. "The goddess of luck..."
His thoughts raced. Whether it was [Good Luck in Distress] or [Good Luck After Misfortune], both invoked the goddess of luck. Orion recognized that myths within the Marvel Universe were often grounded in truth.
Odin, Zeus... these were real entities. The gods of Earth resided in their own divine realms, possessing boundless mana and congregating at the center of the vast universe, in the Heaven Beyond Heaven, for grand celebrations.
"To have caught the attention of the goddess of luck, Fortuna..." Orion pondered, recalling ancient Roman mythology. "I must delve deeper into the history of Earth's gods."
"Noble..." he continued, his mind racing with possibilities. "Who will stand as my benefactor? Mordo? Or perhaps... the Ancient One?"
Orion couldn't help but anticipate the future.
With a renewed sense of purpose, he summoned the talent lottery roulette.
\[Talent lottery roulette\]: The initial draw requires 50 points of luck. (Subsequent draws will consume double the luck points, with increased chances of acquiring rare talents.) (Current cost: 200 points of luck.)
"200 points of luck..." Orion muttered, a hint of reluctance in his voice.
He recalled how he had previously spent 100 points of luck on a white talent entry, which had yielded only 50 points when recycled at the talent mall. The escalating cost of subsequent spins — 400 points, then 800 points — hinted at the diminishing probability of securing a coveted blue talent entry.
But Orion refused to be discouraged. Though he felt the odds were stacked against him, he remained resolute.
With determination, he committed 200 points of luck to the spin.
After all, the goddess of luck had always favored him.
As the talent lottery wheel spun, a dazzling array of colors erupted before Orion's eyes. His heart pounded in anticipation.
Ding!
\[Congratulations to the host for obtaining the white talent [Opposite Sex Affinity]\]
\[Opposite Sex Affinity\] (White): You possess a magnetic charm that ordinary individuals lack, easily garnering the favor and affection of the opposite sex.
"Hmm?" Orion considered, intrigued by the new talent. "Opposite Sex Affinity... Attracting opposite sex?"
"200 points of luck seem well spent," he concluded with a wry smile, recognizing the potential benefits of such a talent.
Observing the [Opposite Sex Affinity], Orion realized that talent entries encompassed a broad spectrum of abilities, possibly extending into realms he had yet to explore fully.
"Perhaps figures like the posidon and the skilled romancers of my past life possessed similar talents," Orion speculated. "What wonders await!"
Without further delay, he solidified his choice.
"In my previous life, I was practically a stranger to romance," Orion reflected earnestly. "Here in the Marvel Universe, I hope to embrace new experiences — perhaps even start a family."
End of chapter.
