It's over pt.2

"Tell me how do you plan something for a year and still manage to fuck it up."

Willis didn't respond, his expression twisted with frustration and defeat. Jaxon pulled out his phone and called the one reliable person he could think of, the sheriff. "This is Jaxon. You must already know what's going on right?"

"Can you please save the lecture for when I get there?"

"Yeah, I have got him in my custody. Send some uniforms to the pageant venue to pick him up."

As he waited for the officers to arrive, Jaxon kept his gun trained on Willis, who lay on the ground, breathing heavily. The crowd started to realize something was amiss, and murmurs of confusion began to ripple through the room.

Barry, still shaken, got to his feet and approached Jaxon cautiously. "Thanks," he muttered, clearly unsettled.

"Save it," Jaxon replied, his tone brusque. "You still need to get to the station and give your statement. This isn't over until you all do your part."

Barry nodded, finally understanding the gravity of the situation,

Helen and Ray rushed over after the gunshot caused a bit of commotion, their faces pale with worry. They skidded to a halt when they saw Jaxon standing over Ben Willis, who lay on the ground, defeated.

"Is it over?" Helen asked, her voice trembling.

"Yeah, it's over," Jaxon replied, not taking his eyes off Willis.

Ray glanced at Helen, then back at Jaxon. "What about him?" he asked,

"The cops are on their way to pick him up. I'll stick around until they get here," Jaxon said.

As the sirens grew louder, signaling the approaching police cars, Jaxon holstered his gun and finally let himself relax a bit. He looked at Willis, shaking his head. "You know, you really should've picked a better hobby or planned better if revenge is the thing that gets you off. But luckily you'll have all the time in the world to do so now."

Willis didn't respond, his face a mask of rage and frustration.

The police burst into the venue, guns drawn. Jaxon raised his hands in a gesture of compliance. "He's all yours, officers. I've got a statement to make at the station."

The officers quickly secured Willis and led him away. Jaxon watched them go, then turned back to Helen, Ray, and Barry. "Alright, let's get this over with. We've all got statements to make."

As they walked out of the venue, the trio stayed close together, their relief palpable. Jaxon, ever the professional, couldn't resist one last jab. "So, who's buying me a drink after this? I think I've earned it."

Barry managed a weak smile. "I think we all owe you one."

"Damn right you do," Jaxon said stretching. "Let's get this done, and then we can talk about how you're going to pay me back. In cash, preferably."

Helen laughed, a genuine sound of relief breaking through the tension. "You really are something, Jaxon."

"No I am very serious, I'll prefer it if you have my money by tomorrow."

"Isn't Julie paying you?" Barry asked as Jaxon stared at him, "I mean... you said that, this very morning."

"But I am still here protecting your asses, aren't I?" Barry said, "Don't worry, I'll give you guys a group discount!"

Jaxon and the group headed for the station, as they all made their statements.

Meanwhile, Jaxon was stuck in the Sheriff's office with the bearded man staring at him,

"How can you be so reckless going in alone!" The man roared, "I don't know what that man taught you, but you should know better yourself."

"I couldn't risk warning the killer with cops surrounding the venue from the get-go," Jaxon said, "In fact, I wasn't sure that he was going to appear there in the first place, that's why I asked Julie to send some officers down at the dock."

"Luckily things worked!"

"Luckily? Son, you could've been dead, if things hadn't gone your way." The sheriff roared pacing all over the office, "FINE! what's done is done, tell me, do you have any evidence that we could use against him."

"As of now, I can only put on stalking, B&E, attempted murder, and a few minor charges on the son and father duo." The sheriff finally sat in his chair making Jaxon feel a lot more comfortable,

Jaxon fiddled with his fingers for a while racking his head through all the information he could muster as his eyes shone for a split second, "The notes!"

"What?"

"The threatening notes that Bill sent to every single one of my clients, he sent the very same thing to David as well, his sister thinks it's a suicide note so if she still has it then we can probably pin the murder of David on him."

"Hmm... with a handwriting analyst singing it off, it can be helpful." The sheriff said when a knock sounded on his door, "Come in!"

"Sir! Sir! You wouldn't believe this!" The officer who he recognized from last time came over in a hurry, "Bill Willis's prints lead him back to a murder he was suspected of, a couple of years ago, the record says he was suspected of murdering his wife back in the resort where he worked due to affair his wife was having."

"I have called the detective working on the case in the Bahamas, and he confirmed any suspicions!"

Jaxon leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips. "Well, looks like we've got more on Willis than we thought. Seems like he's been playing this game for a while."

The sheriff nodded, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "With this new evidence, we can build a much stronger case against him. It'll be hard for him to wiggle out of this one."

Jaxon stood up, stretching his tired muscles. "Good. Let's make sure he pays for everything he's done."

After chatting up with the sheriff a while longer, he finally made his way out of the office, Jaxon saw Julie, Ray, Barry, and Helen waiting for him. They looked anxious, but there was also a hint of hope in their eyes.

"It's over," Jaxon said, his voice firm. "Willis is very likely going down for good."

Julie stepped forward, hugging him. "Thank you, Jaxon! Seriously, thank you!"

"It's alright," Jaxon said patting her back, "You all will need to follow up on statements, and don't even think about making up the story and lying again, as you likely wouldn't be punished harshly if you manage to get a good lawyer."

"I'll head out first then! You all might need to stick around a bit longer."

The group nodded, ready to finally put this nightmare behind them as Jaxon walked out of the station and headed straight to his office.

Crashing on the sofa, he noticed Emily who was busy cleaning up.

"What are you doing?" He asked,

"Something you would never do, cleaning." Emily said sarcastically, "I've been here since noon, where in the hell were you?"

"This good-looking guy here solved his first case." Jaxon said in a grandiose manner,

"No shit!" Emily turned around excitedly, "Tell me all the details, do not leave a single information out, so whose wife was sleeping with whom?"

"Come here you little brat," Jaxon said wrapping his arms around her shoulders, "This brother of yours solved not an infidelity case but a murder-"

"WAIT WHAT!"
