Chapter 8

Steel

My leg is in excruciating pain but I never showed it, I refuse to show weakness. I place both hands on the ground and whisper a spell, suddenly my whole body starts to heat up melting the ice in my leg. I don't know what this will do to my necklace but I start to heat up all of our ships including the people on it as well as the Hydra ships. I bite my togue causing it to bleed as I get a massive headache, stumbling to my bed I lay down and pass out.

"Steel" I hear a voice but it sounds faint "Steel" I feel something nudge my arm "Steel!" I shoot up from the bed looking around only to find a concerned looking Knox.

"How long have I been out" I grab my head still feeling the full effects of the headache, Knox jumps off the bed and grabs something off a table.

"Two hours maybe, but that's not important" he drops a small hand mirror on the bed "Look" I grab the mirror only to drop it back on the bed and grab my hair to really look at it. A part of my hair is white "what happened last night"

"Balaross, Zennith helped me kill him but he said something about my father I think" he looked shocked "he said if he couldn't have a princess then a god would've done nicely, he also said he's met a few gods and he smelled his blood the first time he saw me" Knox laid his head down on my lap comfortingly, my headache just as bad as before.

"Maybe you should rest, I'll get Gracie" I shake my head.

"We're going to shore tomorrow morning and I still have work to do" walking to my closet I grab black pants, a black long sleeve shirt, a black vest, and boots. Getting dressed I leave and walk to the library.

"Are you ok?" I hear a familiar voice come from behind me, I turn to find Zen standing in the doorway wearing something similar to me but with a red shirt. I almost laugh.

"Yes, thank you" I turn back to looking for books "Are you ok?" I hear his heavy footsteps walk up next to me.

"I'm not the one who got injured" he states looking at books with me.

"I'm perfectly fine" I smile and he gives me a skeptical look "See" I stomp my previously frozen leg on the grown biting the inside of my cheek to keep from wincing.

"You don't have to hide it" he turns back to the books "what are we looking for?" he says changing the subject.

"Anything on gods" he nods and starts to look.

About thirty minutes later the two of us have a stack of books were bringing back to my office. I thought he'd leave once we got there but instead, he sat down on the couch and started reading.

"I take it you're not vary close with your father" I laugh and so does he "What about your mother?" he asks more seriously.

"My mother tried to kill me several times before the age of five, after her final attempt she disappeared. I was raised by my grandmother, she died when I was 10. That's when Nash and Gracie found me and took care of me ever since" Zen looked shocked "What about you?" his expression went emotionless.

"My mother got sick when my brother was 5 and I was 4, our father did the best he could to raise us. When I was 16 my brother framed me for our father's murder, I was given this and exiled" he pointed to the long scar on his face. He looked sad.

I grabbed the books off my desk and brought them over to the small table and sat down on the chair beside the couch. Throwing my legs over the arm of the chair I lean my head on the wall and continue reading.
