Twenty-Four

It was another one of those nights.

The time was probably somewhere close to 02:00 am and I was lying awake on the bedding and staring at the trees I could see beyond the half-open sliding door that led out into the porch. We tended to leave the door open like that if the night wasn’t too cold. The shrine premises at nigh time when it was this quiet was rather ethereal- especially so when the moon outside was this bright.

I guess you could call it a beautiful night.

When I closed my eyes though, it looked a lot darker than it should have. There was this constant nagging feeling that something was right outside the half-open door, peering around the corridor, begging to be seen. There was never anything there though.
