After three years of marriage, Wendy Stewart was used to Michael Lucas's sarcastic remarks, his frequent threats about getting divorced, and even his indulgence of a mistress. She thought that she could bear with this her entire life, until she accidentally got pregnant with a child that Michael did not want. Finally despondent, Wendy signed the divorce agreement and left. She thought they could have parted ways forever, but Michael refused to stop looking for her after the divorce. When they met again, she was the world's top designer. Jake headed straight back to his mother after he was out of Michael's sight. Since Wendy had already achieved her goal for the party tonight, she did not plan to linger. She left straight away with Jake and went back to the hotel. After they got in the car, Jake said smugly, "Mummy, I was the one who helped you to distract Mr. Lucas at the party. Aren't I clever?"
Perhaps he should not have mentioned this in the first place. Wendy frowned when she heard him and said, "You met Michael Lucas just now?"
She still did not know that they had already met at the airport. It was never her intention to take Jake with her to Lake City, but he had insisted on coming along. After thinking about it, she realized that it might be a good idea to have him with her since it might be a while before she could return to Rheinsville City.
