A group was heading deeper into the forest. They ran over the knotty roots avoiding the branches and trunks of the giant trees in their path running with great fluidity.
The further they went, the more mystical and spellbinding the forest started to become. Huge roots spread-eagled the ground, twisting like the great backs of sea dinosaurs. The foliage became thick and lush, forming an arch of fairytale-green above their heads.
"One of the targets has an ability related to trees."
Marcus announced to the group. Even though the beauty of the forest was great, it was too unworldly. It was obvious that the location they had obtained was correct and it also indicated that the mission was not going to be easy.
A wave washed over them sending them all into a blissful daze. The glory of the forest was revealed in the birthstone-bright light which pulled them further into it's spell. Almond-brown trees stood serenely, awash with a tender glow. Their bark looked like riffled toast and gems of amber clasped their crusty exterior. The first blush of the morn gave the leafy bower a green-going-to-gold complexion.
Idling past suede-soft flowers. They became enchanted by the beauty of the trees. It whispered into their ears beckoning them to come closer, to come and indulge in it.
Afton gave in and moved to caress them softly. His hand moved on the tree bark as if touching a delicate soul afraid that he would defile it's divinity.
*PIERCE*
A branch was lodged into Afton's chest his face still blissful unaware of the fact that he would die soon.
The rest of them got a wake up call seeing their companion pierced in the chest with a goofy smile. They all snapped out of their daze and put their guards up. Nobody went to help Afton they all knew he was as good as dead and going to help him would just be falling into the trap of their enemy.
"Oh my. How cruel the Volturi is, not even going to rescue their own friend."
A voice giggled through the forest.
"No wonder they have to hide in their little place."
All the guards were searching for the one that attacked them. At least two people had come to attack them one with the power of allure and the other with power of trees. Simon sensed his surroundings with his ability he found a hybrid hiding in the trees observing them, he found another one but much farther away.
He looked towards Jane, who understood that the position had been identified. She looked at the place and saw a woman. The woman also noticed that she had been located and got ready to run away.
Jane used her ability and a shrill scream sounded followed by the fall of the hybrid who was writhing in pain and screaming. One of the guards immediately moved towards her and kicked her in the stomach venting his frustration at Afton's death.
"Don't kill her. The Volturi has better uses for her."
The guard just nodded and broke off all her limbs to immobilize her, which caused her to start bleeding. The sweet and new smell of hybrid blood spread causing the vampires to start drooling. But before they could bite into her.
"Control yourselves. If she is decided useless you do whatever you want with her. Till then stop."
He then looked towards Simon. Simon used his ability to stop the bleeding, he made a few candies secretly even he was tempted by her blood.
The woman fell unconscious after Jane stopped using her ability. The enchanting and seducing forest started to change into a normal forest except for the overly large trees.
Simon noticed the other hybrid had already ran away, still he didn't stop sensing the blood as this one could control trees and letting your guard down being in the middle of the forest was not a good idea.
They group moved further in the forest. The tree attacks started to become more frequent. The guards were getting injured they only avoided death because they stayed as far as they could from the trees.
Finally they reached a clearing where four people were waiting for them, two men and two women.
Simon had already sensed them one of the men was a vampire while the other three were hybrids.
"Welcome to my humble dwellings. Now what can I do for the great Volturi?"
