"So, how did it go?", I asked Master Makarov. It has been two days since Jellal had regained full control of his mind, and most of his time has been spent with Erza. I can attest to this because I had allowed Jellal to temporarily live in my new house. I then told them that Jellal needed to refrain from being seen in public due to the chance of being label as Siegrain, the man the Magic Council has labeled a criminal. I did this after I contacted Makarov, and he told me to keep him hidden for a while and he will return shortly to get him.
This had made Erza visit every day and leaving only when midnight struck. During the two days, I truly felt I was a chaperone for the two of them.
"These last few days have been extremely tiring for me", Makarov said with a sigh. Right now the two of us were talking in his office in the newly finished guild building. I was actually quite impressed with the new building. A pool in the back, a souvenir shop in the front, a stage where people could sing, these were just three of the new features the guild building had. Master Makarov clearly spent a huge amount of money making the building look good.
"After thinking about it carefully, I told the Magic Council an idea that might free Jellal from being sent into prison"
With an eyebrow raised, I said, "Do you mind sharing this idea?".
"When Jellal was appointed as a member of The Wizard Saint, the identity that he has used was Siegrain. This is also the identity that the Magic Council has labeled a traitor. In fact, only after I arrived and met the Councilmembers did they knew of his real name. Realizing that this was an issue far more delicate than just plain out betrayal towards the Magic Council, they immediately moved to prevent leaks from spreading. This eventually became a big help in implementing the idea I have in mind"
"I'm guessing you had a private meeting rather than a public one"
"Correct, the goal of the Wizards Saints is to act on the interest of Ishgar. The Magic Council doesn't like to publicly admit that they appointed a member that planned to betray them from the very beginning. This would lead the people to question their competence", Makarov said as he drinks a cup of water that is on his table.
"Seriously, tell me already and stop delaying old man", I said with a smile on my face.
"I told them to blame the person named Siegrain, not Jellal. I told them to tell the public that Siegrain had a twin brother named Jellal, and they could use this as a way to prevent an innocent man from going to prison. With this people would still blame Siegrain for his betrayal but keep Jellal away from harm", Makarov replied.
"To do that they would need to release a properly worded statement. It's hard...but doable. Did they I agree or at least saw the merit of your plan?", I asked.
"Not totally, the group that wants Jellal to be sent to prison is still on edge about my idea", Makarov said as he stood up from his seat. "I came to pick him up and travel with him towards the headquarters of the Magic Council. I have done all I can, it's in his hands now. Let's just hope that he could convince them himself".
I nodded and stood up from my seat as well. Together the two of us went towards my house and pick Jellal up. Just like the previous days, I saw Erza was with him. Master Makarov told Jellal his idea and that he will take him to have a private meeting with the entire Councilmembers and hopefully come out as a free man. Jellal held Erza's hand and said that he was ready. The 3 of them eventually ended up going together, due to Erza being adamant that she wanted to support Jellal.
I just smiled and watch as the three individuals depart from my house.
"Hope you guys are successful", I said to myself as I walk back to the guild. I was quite surprised when I turned around I saw a dejected Simon. He was clearly looking in the direction where Master Makarov and his group were walking towards.
'Looks like we have a man down', I thought to myself. I eventually arrived in front of him and said, "Hi Simon".
Simon was startled when he heard my voice and he awkwardly replied, "Hi, Enzo".
"They already left, Erza went with Jellal to support him"
"I know", Simon replied as eyes looking at the distance.
I sighed looking at Simon. I wasn't a blind man, the first time I got to meet Simon again in the Tower of Heaven, he said that he always believed in Erza. Even after all those years, the man had no doubt in his mind that Erza wouldn't betray them. Yet here we are, after being freed from the memory of the Tower of Heaven, Erza choose Jellal. For Erza she is supporting a friend but for Simon, Erza had chosen Jellal over him.
Ah, young love, I find this quite a problem for those hopeless romantic. I vaguely remember me being like this in my first life.
"Simon lets go to the guild and get a beer"
"The sun is still out, isn't it too early to drink?", Simon replied as he looks at me.
I snorted and said, "Ah, Simon, time doesn't matter to the brokenhearted".
Simon rubs the back of his head and awkwardly said, "I'm that obvious, huh?".
"Yep, you totally are", I said as I walk ahead, "Come on, the guild awaits". Simon eventually followed a few paces behind me.
