The value of a hero

This is a story about Doryoku Suzuki, a kid whose powerful and uncontrollable quirk gave him many problems throughout his life, and who unlike everyone else, his only dream and goal is to help his mother instead of being a hero. —The story mostly takes place at the same time as when Aizawa was studying at the U.A. —Bnha and the image on the cover don't belong to me obviously. —Any advice to improve the writing is welcome.

Second year for heroes

[A few months later] [Monday—7:00 a.m.]

A lot of little things happened in the last few months, things that aren't really worth digging into, unless you include the weird anecdotes.

The most remarkable thing is that they were all in their second year at UA, something that everyone celebrated, obviously with the exception of Doryoku and Aizawa since there wasn't much special about it according to them.

Anyway, a few months after the end of the year, Doryoku was changing his clothes as usual to go to the UA, although you could tell that he was much calmer than at the beginning.

Until now, the path he had taken was the correct one, and everything he has experienced, both bad and good, has made him quite happy in his opinion.

In fact, the mere ability to tell if he was happy is something that shows his progress perfectly.

Doryoku finished dressing, prepared something to eat, and headed out the door after grabbing his backpack for his first day in his second year of heroic course.

Only when he opened the door, he could notice that it was raining a little hard, not enough to not be able to go, but not so light as to go without problems and it seemed to want to get stronger.

'Ugh, even the rain makes me feel indecisive' Doryoku thought a bit tired, before going back inside and looking for an umbrella to go to the UA.

And now with an umbrella, Doryoku walked slowly across the street to go to the UA.

Mornings in and of themselves were a great time to walk, but with rain and cold gusts of wind, it was an absolute blast.

Still, Doryoku could feel the heaviness around him, as if everyone was more tired in their homes or saddened by the presence of the rain, something that consequently also made him feel a little the same.

'Mmm, so this is why people feel sad... I'm not sure if that's a good thing to know' Doryoku thought to himself feeling a little heavier and limp as he walked.

Even so, after walking for a while, he could see a woman in her 20s running from what appeared to be a bus so that the water would not splash on her.

The strange thing is that this young woman seemed quite happy and entertained with her little misfortune, something that was quite strange, but at the same time interesting.

It was much easier to appreciate happiness among so much sadness... A point in favor for rainy days.

'Huhu, how could I live so long without appreciating these things?' Doryoku thought with a slight smile, far more amused and happy with his walks than he ever had.

It was... Pretty good, being able to see all these things and the best thing is that until now he hadn't been tormented by any thoughts, although the thought of that means that they're back.

Doryoku continued to look around him with quite a bit of curiosity and appreciation for how different a rainy day was, with the people, the feelings, the environment, and just about everything else you could think of.

In fact, he was looking around him for so long that he lost his track, for what seemed like a few minutes but…

"Heyyy, Doryokuuuuu!!" a familiar voice was heard in the distance, to which Doryoku looked in his direction and could see Oboro with a wide smile on his face.

"Oboro? No wonder it's raining, you woke up early" Doryoku said with quite a surprise but without missing the opportunity to annoy Oboro.

"I was woken up by the rain, the sound and terrible cold woke me up almost instantly! Although you don't go very early either" said Oboro trembling slightly and with a little red nose as he spoke, and Doryoku could also notice that he was wearing a scarf and a white umbrella too.

"As dramatic as ever, how long until start classes in UA?" Doryoku said shaking his head at Oboro's exaggeration and with some concern.

"15 minutes to go actually, for me this is the earliest I'll get anywhere" Oboro said with what seemed to be pride at his accidental achievement.

"That's enough actually, we just have to go to the train station that's relatively close" Doryoku said in a thoughtful and calm tone, as he continued walking calmly.

"And already? Wow, you didn't get into any crisis" said Oboro smiling slightly seeing Doryoku's calmness about the situation.

"I know right? Still don't get used to it, I still prefer to arrive very early" Doryoku said with a slight proud smile as he continued on his way just like Oboro.

After taking the train with a few more people, although fewer than usual, both of them only had to walk a few more streets to get to the AU.

"Look! A bird in the rain!" Oboro said with genuine shock as he saw a bird flying through the air despite how hard it was raining now.

"It's nice to know I'm nowhere near to be an airheaded" Doryoku said loudly and on purpose, causing Oboro to have a vein on his forehead.

After a few minutes of walking, Oboro suddenly stopped at the curb and approached a small box for some reason, causing Doryoku to stop in confusion and go back to check as well.

"What are you doing?" Doryoku asked looking at Oboro who was fervently looking at the small box.

"Wait, I saw it in movies, for sure there will be a little cat or dog inside this box and it will be my companion for life!" Oboro said with his umbrella over him and quite confidently as he slowly opened the box for drama and Doryoku looked at him like he was an idiot.

Just then, Doryoku noticed a bus rapidly approaching, nothing unusual, except that there was a puddle in front of them.

He simply put his umbrella in front and blocked a large part of the water covering himself and Oboro, although his feet and hair did get a little wet because of this.

"There's nothing! I was scammed!" Oboro said quite indignant when he noticed that it was only wet and there were some other scratches inside, but nothing more.

"Hey, did you fall or something?" Oboro said with some confusion seeing that Doryoku had soaked feet and some of his hair too.

"Nah, I had to defend an idiot from himself, typical" Doryoku said calmly with a shrug to which Oboro wasn't sure if he should be offended.

"You'll know later if you should be offended, it's already getting late" said Doryoku walking quickly towards the AU.

"Hey wait, don't leave me behind!" Oboro said getting up quickly and following Doryoku towards the UA.

'Right... I hope the little cat is alright' Doryoku thought a little more concerned and tried to quickly get to the UA to check his suspicions.

[A few minutes before]

Aizawa was walking to the UA a little early to get there just in time, although now he was a little earlier than usual since the rain and cold woke him up.

As if an interruption in the sacred dream was not enough, he also noticed that his umbrella was a bit old and had a small hole through which some water ran, so he also had to stop near a store to buy other.

'It's as if misfortunes multiply when it rains' Aizawa thought to himself with some annoyance after his terrible start to the day.

After buying a dark blue umbrella so as not to be called hopelessly emo, Aizawa left the shop and continued on his way as he looked at the time on his phone.

'7:35... 20 minutes of sleep making fun of me, wonderful' Aizawa thought almost feeling how the hour was making fun of his misfortune at being quite close to the UA.

He kept walking quite calmly until a certain sound stopped him...

"Meow!" It was the meow of a small feline in the distance it seemed, so Aizawa looked around more carefully.

After walking a little more, he could see a small box where the meow came from, and when he opened it he found a small white cat with blue eyes.

"Hmmm, hadn't Suzuki talked about a cat? But he never said his name or described it... It's very unlikely" Aizawa said, rambling a bit in a thoughtful tone as the little cat remained very alert.

"Tssssss!" growled the little cat quite annoyed, since being wet and in front of a stranger was not comforting at all.

"I thought so, Suzuki said that the cat he found was quite docile, that only puts one more token against you" Aizawa said with his typical bored expression and being almost sure that it wasn't that cat.

Still, he left his umbrella over the animal so that no more rain fell on him at least, and although some drops fell on Aizawa, he was already quite close to the station and he hardly cared.

Aizawa got up from his place and walked rather quickly to get to the UA, although after walking away a couple of steps, a memory from some time ago flashed through his mind.

~"It is not the same to help a person than to save him, for me that is the difference between a hero as a professional and one from the heart and what makes it worth trying to be one"~ Aizawa remembered Doryoku's words at the festival sports car, ones he didn't fully understand, but now they were as clear as water.

Aizawa stood thinking about the situation for a moment, before going back to where the little cat was and trying to grab it without being scratched too much.

"Meowwww" the little cat growled with quite annoyance, though he still never tried to attack Aizawa.

"Pfff, at least I won't get a scratch so quickly" Aizawa said taking the little cat with his right arm and the umbrella with his left arm.

"I guess it's not so irrational, at least I won't have to buy another umbrella" Aizawa said trying to justify his obviously sentimental decision, as he walked towards the UA again with the little cat.

"Don't worry bro, he sure is fine! You said he was pretty smart right?" Oboro said being positive as always while Doryoku looked quite worried.

Doryoku spent at least 10 minutes searching with Oboro for the little cat through the UA, and finding nothing, his nerves were at their peak.

He was even considering asking Last laser to let him skip classes today, after all he felt quite guilty for not being able to find a home for the little feline until now.

Upon entering the UA, both friends went directly to the teachers' room to speak with Last laser before class, since thanks to the rain it would take a little longer.

But right on their way, they both ran into Aizawa, who seemed to be carrying something, making both Doryoku and Oboro very curious.

Moving closer and taking a quick look, they both could see that it was a small white cat, which caused Doryoku to let out a large relaxed sigh, and Oboro to do the same, albeit to a lesser extent.

Is this a transition chapter? Probably.
