Chapter 80 Fury Appeared!!!
There was a sports car parked in front of Leon's new home, accompanied by a stunning woman. The beautiful agent Natasha Romanoff was seated inside.
Leon, leaning against the car door with a faint smirk, asked, "Do you folks at S.H.I.E.L.D. really work for a nation?"
He was aware of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s agenda here and seemed uneasy that the Stark Group wasn't playing the role of arms dealers.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived faster than the FBI and CIA?" he continued, clearly puzzled. "No matter how you slice it, the Stark Group will not cooperates with a military. What's the half-dime relationship with your S.H.I.E.L.D.? Why the rush?"
Natasha Romanoff sighed patiently and explained to Leon, "I know you have strong views about nations."
Leon quickly retorted, "Don't spout nonsense. I don't have opinions like that. I'm an alien, after all. How could I have a nation-based opinion? I just don't hold politicians in high regard. At the very least, I'm an ordinary person. No opinions."
Natasha Romanoff simply squinted at Leon, unsure of what to say. She opened the car door and stepped out, heading towards Leon's house.
Leon shrugged and reluctantly followed her, wondering whose house this was.
To Leon's surprise, he had locked the door when he left, but Natasha Romanoff produced a key and unlocked it.
Leon regarded Natasha Romanoff with a meaningful look.
She met his gaze and tossed the key to him. "Don't look at me like that. This house originally belonged to S.H.I.E.L.D. The director had it specially prepared for you."
Leon raised an eyebrow. Was he trying to keep tabs on him? Perhaps it was wiser to know his whereabouts at all times than to let him roam the world.
"But how did he know I'd choose this house?" Leon asked. He had stumbled upon it on a whim.
"It's quite simple. I made an educated guess," Fury suddenly appeared from the direction of the kitchen and complained to Leon, "You don't even have a bottle of water here."
Leon wasn't surprised. He conjured a ball of water and crystal clear glass and tossed it casually. the water poured into the glass and it landed in front of Fury.
Leon found it odd to eat or drink food and drink that he'd transformed, but he didn't mind conjuring water for others.
Fury glanced at the water in the glass and took a tentative sip. Surprisingly, it tasted a bit sweet.
Putting down the glass, Fury pulled out a chair and sat down, as if he were in his own home.
Seeing that Leon still seemed puzzled, Fury smiled and continued to explain, "We know about your true identity and the recent developments in Tony and Pepper's relationship. So I figured you wouldn't want to rely on others constantly. You've got no shortage of funds, right? With your abilities, you're probably more concerned about the comfort of your surroundings. So, I had this house prepared in advance."
"But I wasn't certain that you'd choose to live here; it was just a precaution," Fury added. "I didn't anticipate you'd ultimately pick this place."
Leon had to give a nod of approval to Fury's calculated thinking.
"It's said that it's better to offend a gentleman than a villain, I understand," Leon chuckled.
Fury didn't seem to mind, feigning ignorance, and revisited the topic that Natasha Romanoff and Leon had discussed earlier. "Why did the Stark Group suddenly shut down the weapons department?"
"Tell me this first, Who are you on behalf for?" Leon countered without directly answering.
Fury couldn't help but smile, recognizing Leon's persistence in the matter. Natasha Romanoff, on the other hand, simply shrugged, unable to provide an answer, as Leon consistently brought up this question.
Leon had a particular interest in S.H.I.E.L.D's affiliation, but Natasha knew better than to divulge such sensitive information. Fury gazed at Leon intently and sighed, "Alright, I'll admit that this time, we are indeed working on behalf of a country. But you must understand that S.H.I.E.L.D consists of individuals who ultimately serve the greater good."
Leon triumphantly exclaimed, "See, see, see!" without specifying who he was addressing.
Fury waited for Leon to settle down before continuing, "However, there's something important I'd like you to grasp. Even if you have reservations about a nation, you cannot deny that a nation is also a member of the United Nations. Therefore, working for a nation does not equate to betrayal of the United Nations. Hope you understand this."
Leon pondered for a moment and conceded, "Well, you have a point. This nation is indeed a member of the United Nations, and since S.H.I.E.L.D works for the United Nations, working for a nation makes sense."
"But there's more," Fury added with a serious tone, as if issuing a warning. "S.H.I.E.L.D was originally established in secrecy within a country and by individuals from this country. It later became a subsidiary of the United Nations."
Fury's admission clarified that S.H.I.E.L.D had its roots in serving a nation, which had been transferred to the United Nations over time.
Fury continued, "Furthermore, our presence here isn't solely about serving a nation. We're also concerned about Tony and the Stark Group. Howard Stark, Tony's father, was one of the original founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. He made significant contributions to our organization. We can't just abandon Tony."
The complexity of relationships was becoming apparent. Fury had come clean about S.H.I.E.L.D's allegiance to a nation, emphasizing that it had been established by individuals from the nation.
They had tried to recruit Leon for S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Avengers on several occasions, framing it as a noble cause for the United Nations and the world. Little did they expect Leon to see through their intentions.
"Alright, since you're finally willing to be upfront, I'll reciprocate," Leon admitted with a grin. "In fact, Tony and I have been meticulously planning for the past six months. We deliberately let go of the arms dealer's business, receiving charity from a nation like beggars. Tsk, tsk, tsk."
Natasha Romanoff and Fury were left speechless. Arms dealing was widely regarded as one of the most lucrative businesses, and they couldn't fathom why someone would willingly distance themselves from it. Why would they turn down such immense profits, especially when nations struggled to enforce gun control?
However, Leon wasn't boasting; he spoke with an air of mystery, telling them, "We'll be holding a press conference soon, and then you'll understand why we did this."
