Chapter 30

Roan lay on the soft bed as he caressed his bloated stomach. It was a comfort that he wasn't familiar with but wished it to be the norm from now on. It was expensive but worth every copper.

He wished he could provide these comforts to Ruth. He was a father to him and Roan hadn't had the chance to pay him back.

But from Roan's experience, Ruth didn't need any paybacks. Ruth had a mysterious background and a never-ending source of money which he claimed to be from begging and working but Roan never saw him beg or work.

Ruth was mysterious in ways that Roan couldn't understand but Roan never tried to pry upon his secrets.

Roan yawned as sleep threatened to claim him and it did after a couple of seconds. He was exhausted.

"Watch where you're going, boy. " A buff man reprimanded Roan after colliding with him. But Roan ignored the man and just walked away, his destination the adventurers guild.

The good food and sleep yesterday had given him energy that he had no idea he even had.

He almost skipped as he walked along the dirty road towards the guild according to the direction given to him by the girl at the reception.

"A left and there. " Roan muttered. The guild finally entered his vision and he was surprised after seeing it. The guild looked vastly different from the one in his town.

It looked like an abandoned building, a small dilapidated wooden house with an old sign on top of a large door which read 'The Adventurers Guild' in Cerese.

It looked different than what Roan was expecting. If not for the sign, then Roan might have even thought that the girl at the inn had given him the wrong directions.

Roan shook his head and walked towards the guild. Trying to push away the disappointment, Roan entered the building. But it increased even further after seeing the interior of the guild. It was as rundown as the exterior and with few benches which looked like they were made during the dark ages and a huge mission board which was almost fully empty if not for a couple of sheets of paper plastered on it.

And the reception was occupied by a single employee who was laying back on his chair with no work to do.

The receptionist turned to look at Roan and so did the couple of men sitting on the old benches, talking to each other.

Their gazes held interest as if saying, who would even come to this place? Roan seriously doubted whether he could earn any money from this place.

But still, he walked up to the mission board intending to take a look if there was any good work.

But he was bound to be disappointed even more. The missions were just some physical work inside the town that paid in coppers.

Roan sighed in disappointment and shook his head. It was the third disappointment that he had experienced today and his good energy had all vanished. He almost slouched as he walked towards the counter intending to ask about any other work available.

"Another disappointed brave Adventurer. Welcome to Fayoor town. "The receptionist smiled after seeing Roan walk towards him and said in a loud mocking voice.

He leaned on the counter in front of him, "How can I help you, Adventurer? " He continued his mocking tone, especially emphasizing the word Adventurer.

'Does he hate the word? 'Roan wondered as he stood in front of the counter. He smiled awkwardly at the man and asked, "Isn't there anything better than this? " as he gestured towards the mission board hoping that the guy wouldn't continue his tone and give him some proper advice. He hoped so.

But he was bound to be disappointed for the fourth time after he saw the wriggling eyebrows and the bright smile on the face of the receptionist.

"Oh. What problem do the missions on the board have? Aren't they lucrative and easy, my dear adventurer? " The man either didn't like the word or it was his favourite. Roan was sure of that.

Roan exhaled as he tried to control his annoyance. It seemed even his Necromantic abilities were annoyed at the man which caused Roan to be annoyed. He was supposed to feel his emotions more mildly than a normal person because of him being a Necromancer. But now it was like he was just a normal person feeling emotions like everyone else did. It might have felt good if what he was feeling was any other emotion than annoyance. And the feeling mounted as he heard muffled laughter behind him. These guys were having fun at his predicament.

Roan was about to give the man his own medicine when a door to his side, which he hadn't realized was there before, opened.
