Chapter 29

Roan stood in the middle of a muddy street filled with garbage and swished his head left and right, surprised at the number of people crowding the street. It was significantly more than what Roan was used to in Tolaga.

But he shook off the shock and tried not to think about the town he had already left. He squeezed himself through the crowd as he ventured deeper into the town. First, he had to find himself an accommodation but he was almost broke except for the gold coin that Ruth had handed him. A gold coin felt like a lot but when you had to pay for everything from that coin, it wasn't much.

Inns were expensive but he had no other option. They usually charged somewhere between five to ten copper per night with food which meant that his gold coin would at most last for two months without including any other expenses.

'Hope there's some good missions in the guild. '

"The Suvam Inn. "

Roan read the sign of the inn he had arrived at in search of accommodation. It was a three-storied wooden building with no balcony.

It was nothing fancy which was what Roan was after. And the best part was that the adventurer's guild was close by. So, as an adventurer, this was the best spot to live for the time being.

Roan entered the inn and a bell rang above his head as he opened the door. Roan expected to see a crowded hall but instead, there were only around six people of which two seemed to be the workers here who were staring at him with bright faces.

A boy no more than fifteen was cleaning the tables while some men sat at the back, eating. A black-haired girl who looked the same age as Roan sat on the counter. She smiled at Roan as soon as Roan turned towards her. The smile was bright, almost too bright for the silent Roan.

"Welcome to the Suvam Inn. How may I help you? " She said in a way that Roan had never heard someone speak. It sounded so refined. The people at the inn in his town never talked this way.

"I need a room to stay for a week. " Roan said as he approached the counter. He was hungry and craved something other than bread. But the room came first and then he would see what this inn had to offer in food.

"A room costs seven coppers a night. So, for a week... that would be two silvers and one copper. " the girl said after doing some calculations with her fingers. It was expensive as Roan had expected but he had no other options. He couldn't sleep in the streets, could he? And he definitely wouldn't be sleeping on some ramshackle huts. Getting kidnapped again wouldn't be nice.

Roan reluctantly handed the girl the only gold coin he had and waited for her to return him the change. And after a minute of waiting, she handed him the change which was a pouchful of coins and a key, "Your room is the one with a leaf on the door. It's on the second floor just beside the stairs. "

"Thank you. "Roan replied, quickly walking towards the stairs.

He found his room which had a leaf carved on the door and walked inside. The room was big and had a bed and a small table beside the bed. And there seemed to be a door too on his left.

He opened the door to find a small room with a big tub and a tap.

"A bathroom. " Roan exclaimed. Excited, he ran to the tub and twisted the tap. A stream of clean water poured out of the tap.

Roan had only heard of bathrooms being in some fancy inn and rich people's houses but now he had a chance to experience it for himself. He wondered how such a simple-looking inn had one. But the room was expensive, so Roan wasn't going to complain.

"Whatever. "Roan muttered as she took off his clothes and put them to the side. It had been days since he had last taken a bath.
