Chapter 6
Abandoning the small apartment Melisca had stayed in for many years in the city, made her heart ache a little. Though she was not home most of the time because of the assignments that led her to travel to different places, at least she had someplace to get back to from time to time. It was her safe haven. But now, it's unsafe anymore, as is the city.
Hurrying to put extra clothes in her backpack and the money that she had withdrawn before coming back to her place. She would never underestimate the domineering presence of that man. Though not knowing much about werewolves, such an aura could only belong to an alpha. It only means that he had the resources and people to find her in no time. But not that fast if she can help it.
Yanking the bag from the bed and strode to the bedside table, laying a piece of white paper above. Few words she had written on it. Guessing that perhaps there might be people coming to her place.
She fished her phone from her pockets and broke it in half, also her bank cards, so that they couldn't simply track her whereabouts.
Lastly, the cigarette boxes that she had kept in her drawer from the table, she threw in her bag and stashed them in her pockets before approaching the door. She turned around, exhaling a long breath of exhaustion while roaming her eyes over for maybe the last time in her little home.
No more time to delay, she switched off the lights and locked the door behind her.
Sauntering out of the place, the area was still safe, no one had followed her yet.
She inserted the key to her big bike before putting on the helmet and getting on the seat. The motorcycle gloves would protect her hands from the chilling wind of her long ride through the night.
Before starting, she glanced at her wristwatch, it was nine o'clock in the evening. Luckily, the gas tank was full, she won't be stopping at any gasoline station soon. Pressing the button on and revving it up, she kicked the stand and launched on her way to the high road.
How she wished she could fully speed on, but not in the middle of the city, where traffic lights and authorities were around the area. She had enough people chasing after her, the police officers could not be of any help.
She doesn't use her motorcycle often, particularly during missions. She doesn't want anything to happen to it, she loves her big bike. The freedom of riding it solo and the speed as if she, herself, were running on foot.
They might wonder where her files are and no record of her in the system. Well, for the file, Melisca had stolen it years ago. Not really stealing, considering it was hers from the beginning, so she just got it back, without them knowing and she burned the papers. In case she might misplace it somewhere in her place. So she just got rid of it.
For her information in the system, she had paid someone, big time, to delete all of her data. She had already reckoned long before that a situation like this could come. That her murderers had followed her finally. But it wasn't them. It's much worse who had found her. Much worse if she couldn't achieve her goal just because a possessive alpha would like her better tied on his bed.
No. Not a freaking chance. Well, at least not now. Not for a very long time maybe. But would likely never.
If it were the killers who were after her earlier, then she wouldn't be running away like this. More like, she'll wait for them to strike. She had no one to lose for the people she cared about were already gone. Gone by their hands.
The two persons who her mother referred to as friends, killed her in their house. The hunters' clan to which her mom belonged before running away with her mate, her father.
Her father's pack, which exiled him for choosing Melicia, her mother, found them only to be told that the alpha, wanted them dead.
Why go to the extent of killing their own family? There could be no valid reason for it, other than just plain cold-blooded murder. They wanted her dead, but she'll show them how alive and kicking she is. She would gladly turn the tables and come to them instead.
Nearing the outskirts of the city, she stopped at a hotel. She can't risk the night. An ambush could likely take place on her way. Trees on both sides of the road. And when there were forests involved, there could be creatures hiding in the shadows.
At least in daylight, she can blend in with humans. They can't sense that she's a wolf. Except maybe for that man. She really doesn't like calling him her mate. She would deny it.

Back in his room, Ezekiel stood before the tall window. One hand was in his pocket while the other was holding a brandy glass. Sipping the alcohol mixed with something else, one of his favourite red drinks. Glancing far away from his people. His mansion is situated a mile away from his village.
Looking from his position, the rangers roamed the area, rounding their shifts. He had succeeded this far, the safety of his pack and the shelter for each of his allies. He was like the parent of them all. Watched them grow up and build their families. A happy and complete one made him jealous. Seeing the happy faces of little wolf kids, running with laughter along with their playmates, brought him warmth. That all his hard work was worth it, together with his friends.
When he found out that the supernatural hunters had formulated a poison that could kill creatures like him, he immediately deployed his warriors to search for these people. To destroy their facilities, and rescue all they held captive for the poison trial. He hadn't let his people know the danger they were facing, only the tasked warriors he sent out on the mission. It could only cause panic to them. So, he ordered his rangers to be more alert and ensure that no one else could get into the village unnoticed.
In regards to that, Melisca had received the poison. Thankfully she had survived the fatal result. If she had died before he even met her, he would really burn every supernatural hunter alive on this planet. He could never forgive himself also, for he hadn't tried enough to find her before it could happen. But the more important thing was, she survived it.
Still, what if she could be found by them and won't be lucky enough for the second time? And he wasn't there to protect her. That's also why he's desperate enough to find her.
Where could she have gone now? Does she have another man? What could she be running for? Was she afraid of him? If it is, why would she be? How dare she just reject him like that?
Ezekiel slammed the glass at the wall as he turned around and the door opened.
Argon didn't see it coming and that startled him. He closed the door again to protect himself in case his alpha would throw another one.
"Get in." His voice was deep with boiling frustration. He poured another glass of his drink from the bar table at the left side of the window and emptied the content down in one gulp.
The atmosphere in the room reeks of hidden murder. Ezekiel's mood can really affect his presence. That's why he often uses the ring to somehow ease the oozing aura of his power. It always intimidates people, and easily makes them cower. Especially the children couldn't stand his energy.
Argon pushed his feet to move forward, directly put his one knee on the ground and lowered his head in submission. Though they were really close friends he was still his beta. They were never equal in position and strength, he totally respects Ezekiel.
"She left a note, alpha." He uttered as he held up his hand to give the paper. Expecting another outburst from his leader they failed again.
Zek strode and snatched the paper from him.
- Please don't come after me. I still have a very important thing to do. I won't let anyone get in my way. Not even you. –
Facing again the window as he closed his eyes firmly and inhaled a lungful of air. In his fist a crumpled note he had just read.
"Aargh!!" In just a blink of an eye, the bar table and the bottle on it flew across the room, hitting the wall before landing on the floor in pieces.
"What could it be that is more important than being with me?!" He thundered in frustration.
His beta flinched while still on one knee. He wouldn't dare look his alpha in the eyes.
"She doesn't know what danger lurks out there!" His voice echoed throughout the entire room. Chest heaving in and out for the furious beating of his heart.
"What else did you find?" Finally lowering his voice a little, he stopped his pacing.
"S-She had left her cell phone broken and her bank cards along with that note." Argon closed his eyes for what he knew could be coming next. He almost lifts his hands to cover his ears, he clenches it to restrain himself and brace for what will happen.
"Oh." Ezekiel uttered, "So, she really doesn't want to be tracked." His breaths of fire wanted to erupt from his lungs. He faced the tall window and the endless forest beyond the village. "A chasing game, huh." He said gritting his teeth. "Bring it on, mate. But when I found you, you were dead, Melisca."
