Meanwhile, after school had closed for the day, Kyle didn't immediately head home. At the back of an alley, he changed out of his uniform and put on some casual clothing before walking to the bus stop.
Minutes later, a bus arrived which Kyle boarded instantly. His destination was none other than the Metahuman Association which Natasha had advised him to visit the previous night.
There was a law requiring newly awakened metahumans to register with the association within a month of awakening their abilities. It would be considered a crime for a metahuman to ignore this law. The penalty would be either to pay a fine or become a wanted criminal if caught by the authorities, unless a compelling reason for noncompliance was provided.
Kyle still had plenty of time before he had to register himself as a metahuman and it wasn't necessary for him to do so today. However, he needed to because of the plan he had come up with in order to make some money to assist his mother.
Kyle was also both nervous and curious to know his rank as a metahuman which was making him feel a bit nervous about the result.
He would have arrived there faster on his own but his nervousness was one of the reasons that prompted him to take a bus in order to gain more time to compose himself before he arrived at his destination.
After all, this was a moment that he never imagined experiencing in his lifetime. Almost two and a half weeks ago, Kyle's main focus was to graduate top of his class no matter whatever obstacles he was going to face in order to get to college but now there's been a significant change of plans.
He arrived at his destination and alighted from the bus. The sight of the building structure before him was so magnificent that it left him in awe as he raised his head to see how tall it was.
"They definitely put a lot of money into this one," Kyle remarked. This was the first time he had seen the Metahuman Association office because he had never had a reason to visit this part of the city until now.
Kyle walked past the entrance to the building and entered the large lobby of the building. He was so surprised to see many other people in the lobby that were also here to get themselves registered as a metahuman.
Fortunately, the association had hired a lot of staff to handle the registration process, otherwise there would have been a long line.
Kyle pulled out a face mask from his pocket and wore it before he approached a desk. "Good day miss, I'm here to register as a bounty hunter" He said to the female employee sitting at the desk.
She looked at Kyle with a baffled expression because even though he still wore a mask it was still noticeable that he was a teenager that was speaking to her.
As a bounty hunter, one's job was to apprehend certain wanted metahumans for a reward based on their notoriety. Despite the high pay, there was also a high risk; one could lose their life on the job and there was a kid who wanted to apply for the job.
"Are you sure of the request you're making sir?" The attendant couldn't resist asking Kyle again.
"Is there a problem, Miss?" Kyle asked.
"No at all, I was just confirming your request again. Please take this form and fill it with the correct information." She smiled as she handed Kyle the slip, putting aside her opinion.
Kyle took the slip and filled it completely in a few seconds before returning it to the attendant. The attendant beckoned him towards the waiting room to wait for his turn.
Afterward, the attendant escorted Kyle into the testing room, where his ability and physical stats were to be assessed. Inside the room there were a few people that were operating the machines that would be used to perform the assessment.
Immediately Kyle walked into the room, a lady in a long white laboratory coat approached him.
"So you're the teenager that wants to register as a bounty hunter?" she questioned with a raised eyebrow.
Kyle responded with a small nod.
"Hmm, I'm Ella and I'm in charge of your assessment today. However, I must inform you that if your potential doesn't meet the requirements you won't be able to become a bounty hunter." She explained.
"What are the requirements?" Kyle inquired.
"You must be at least a C-rank metahuman. Because the criminals you will be hunting are also high-level metahumans." Ella replied with a smug smile.
She wanted to make Kyle realize that being a bounty hunter was no joke and he was aiming for something that was way higher than his level
"Alright, I'm very confident that I can accomplish that." Kyle smiled back at Ella. He understood what she was trying to achieve.
Ella scoffed. "Fine, then let's proceed with the examination." She walked away
Kyle was instructed to take off his clothes which he diligently obeyed, however he still left the face mask on his face.
"Why aren't you taking that off?" Ella asked, pointing at the mask.
"I'm sorry but I intend to keep it on." Kyle responded curtly before he proceeded into the chamber that would scan his potential.
As soon as Kyle walked into the chamber, Ella gave the order to start the assessment. "Alright, hotshot let's see what you're all about?" She muttered to herself.
However, the results that were displayed on the screen weren't close to anything Ellahad expected. In fact, she wasn't the only one that was shocked as they saw the results on the screen.
"This isn't right. Is the machine broken?" Ella asked the operator.
"No ma'am, I'm also as confused as you are. Maybe it's just an error or some sort of bug."
"Then fix it and run the test again.....NOW!" Ella yelled anxiously at the operators .
They hurriedly started up the machine and performed the assessment again on Kyle but the results remained unchanged.
"No way, this is absolutely mind blowing. How can a teenager like him have this much potential?" Ella said in dismay as she looked at Kyle who was in the chamber.
Stars were used to display the results whenever an assessment to measure the potential of an awakened Metahuman was performed. Having four stars means your abilities were already beyond any human capability, and you were at least a B-rank metahuman.
However, all of Kyle's stats were displayed with eight stars except for the mental stats, which had ten stars and that was the highest number of stars a metahuman could possess.
"Inform any executive officer you can now and bring me his file." Ella instructed one of the operators.
"And you get him out of the chamber now." She said while pointing at another operator.
Kyle was unaware of the ruckus he had caused while he was still inside the chamber. He noticed that everyone's demeanor and attitude had changed towards him.
Ella suddenly started acting nicer to him and everyone was calling him sir while bowing slightly.
"Did I pass the assessment?" Kyle asked Ella.
"Yes Mr Rex, you passed your test and are now qualified to be a bounty hunter. In a short while your assessment results and card will be handed to you sir." Ella answered sharply.
"Mr Rex, I would like to apologize if I had offended you earlier due to my rudeness." Ella apologized sincerely as she slightly bowed.
When Kyle filled in the form earlier he decided not to use his real name and address. So the name he decided to use was Rex because it also had a similar meaning to his name.
Kyle scratched his head awkwardly. He was clueless about the situation before him. Honestly, he wasn't even offended and he was baffled by Ella's apology.
"It's okay.. I guess."
After Kyle finished dressing himself up back in his clothes, his license was ready and handed over to him. His eyes popped out when he saw his rank on his license.
"SS-rank, well that explains a lot of things." Kyle finally realized why his physical ability was overwhelming. Yet, he was so pleased with the result that he couldn't wait to tell Natasha.
Kyle hurriedly completed the rest of the registration process to become eligible to become a bounty hunter.
"Sir, if it's not too much trouble, one of the executives would like to meet you."
When Kyle was finally done and was about to leave the attendant informed him.
"Sorry I can't wait that long anymore, I'm already late." Kyle apologized and hurried out of the building.
Not long after Kyle left, Ella arrived with another lady in a fitted suit. "Where is Rex?" Ella asked the attendant when she didn't see him anywhere.
"Ummm, ma'am Ella he had already left just now. He said he had to go somewhere and he was already late."
"What? You should have found a way to delay him a little longer, you're such a dimwit. I should...grrrr" Ella shouted in frustration.
"Calm down Ella, we have his file don't we? We can still find him, and he is also registered as a bounty hunter. I believe we will be seeing more from him soon." The lady in a suit spoke calmly.
"I suppose you're right Mira, but why are you acting so calm about it? I just witnessed the birth of an SS-rank metahuman."
"Rex huh, I hope we meet soon," Mira murmured, ignoring Ella.
