The argument

"What are you doing here?" Mrs. Miller exclaimed in a startled and defensive tone.

"What are you doing here?" Mrs. Miller said again when Mr. Rogers didn't answer in an almost hysterical manner clearly caught off guard by Mr. Rogers's unexpected visit.

"Ha! You don't know why I am here." Mr. Rogers snickered in response to Mrs. Miller's defensive tone.

With a sly grin on his face, Mr. Rogers strode confidently into the living room. He walked straight toward Merry and said, "Hello Merry, it has been quite some time since we last saw each other."

Merry was still deciding on what to say when someone pulled her away from Mr. Rogers suddenly.

It was Mrs. Miller. She had pulled Merry away and put her in a protective position behind her as she faced Mr. Rogers.

"Go to your room. Go to your room immediately," Mrs. Miller demanded in an authoritative voice.
