Long And Historical

Devon frowned. "Not even how you got to this place you claimed?" He asked, raising a brow.

Isla nodded at him with a sad expression.

"Then that's a shame. I was actually curious as to why you were so confident that you saw your previous life."

"I didn't see my previous life, I saw hers and that's why I understood her better, but I just can't understand why can't I remember."

He stared at her for some time. "I think I know why," he said, grabbing her attention.

"You do?" She asked with a desperate look.

"Of course, and that's because she was the previous life, you definitely saw yourself there and not anyone else."

Isla went into deep thoughts. "But I saw her, not me. I mean, it did feel like I was seeing things with my own eyes… Like in my perspective. I don't know how, but it felt so real, and it's perplexing that I can't remember what I saw when it was just so clear. The tension of each event I saw and each moment something unexpected happened was surreal."

"And yet, you can't remember," he shook his head.

"Try to concentrate for a while and think more about what conspired, maybe that might trigger the memory." He advised, and Isla was shocked to hear him say that. She was expecting him to turn around with an aloof air and expressionless face.

"You think that would help?" She asked, wrapping her arms around her cold body when the wind became intense and the air got colder.

"I think you should go back," he said.

"Back again? In time?" She asked with a shock expression, wondering if that was possible.

"No I mean inside since you seem cold." He pointed out.

"I'm not, I just… It's nothing, and I'm fine," she refused.

"Well you, if you insist." He shrugged and mind his business. They stood in silence and she was now shaking.

"The sky looks beautiful," she commented while looking up to distract herself. Devon glanced up and he furrowed his brows.

"You think that is beautiful?"

"Yes obviously," she answered with a slightly creased face. What could be more beautiful than the stars that light up the sky like shimmering patterns.

"I know you would say that, but if you think that's beautiful, then try hell." He responded, shocking the life out of Isla.

"Why would I do that?" She muttered with a pale face.

"Because it is, in fact, beautiful, but to humans it's not."

She wondered what man or who on this earth would see hell as a beautiful place, well maybe those who wish for death and of course him. But he wasn't seeking for death, he was just being bitter, and she couldn't decipher the meaning in his words.

"Because only those who sins go there," she replied.

"They're, fortunately." He said. The deepness of his voice and the way he spoke made her stomach twitch in fear because she was sure they were hidden meaning to his words.

"I… I should go inside." She didn't feel a bit safe with him anymore, and she couldn't help but wonder why she felt safe in the first place when the man looked so scary to begin with. Everything about him screamed danger, and she took the risk to still stand with him.

He nodded while still looking up at the sky. If he wasn't fascinated, then why bother looking at it? She asked inwardly.

"Excuse me," she muttered and attempted to walk away, but paused when she remembered something. Turning back, she looked at his back that faced her. "Thank you for helping me at that alley and also from that demon that possessed that girl…'' What was his name again? "Thank you for saving me from Hex and… The other time I almost fell off the cliff." She finished, but he still maintained his posture.

"Alright then, I should go ahead… I just wanted to thank you since I forgot to do that early." She said and turned to leave.

"Are you forgetting something?" He asked.

She turned again with a questioning look. He turned around and walked up to her with a dark look on his face. "I see you forgot quite a lot, even what happened last night," he nodded his head.

Isla gulped painfully. "What do you mean?"

He stepped back from her. "Goodnight." He said instead. Isla frowned but walked away.

She couldn't sleep that night as she kept asking herself if something happened that she didn't know about, but of course Devon was the only one that knew.

She woke up still sleepy and tired, but she had to prepare for them to leave. The only way to speed up their journey was by moving faster.

They got on the horse after she literally begged her uncle to sit beside her, but he refused, reminding her about Logan.

They continued the journey, and she tried to ignore the feeling Devon closeness brought, remembering what he said last night, but the last part about something occurring the night before still kept playing in her head.

Isla woke up when she heard the sound of a loud neigh. She opened her eyes and blinked continuously to clear her blurry vision.

She then realized that they were still on the horse.

"Awake?" She heard him ask behind her. She nodded her head slowly.

Was she sleeping the whole time? She blushed and tried to check if she drooled.

"Where are we now?" She asked to hide her beating heart.

"Close. There, you can see the gate of the capital." He pointed to a far distance.

Isla looked shocked. "It's really the capital's gate."

"What? Wait, I can see it too," Amelia beamed.

"Oh my god, finally!" Ava exclaimed joyfully.

"We should go faster," Oliver advised.

"Yes we should," Isla agreed. She couldn't wait to go back home. The journey was very long and historical with everything she saw and went through. She deserved a break, and it was really a shame that she couldn't remember a thing about what happened.

"Did you take my advice?" Devon whispered next to her ear.

She swallowed the lump in her throat to speak, but shook her head instead. His voice did things to her body, and she felt alert and bothered.

"Maybe I can help," he suggested. Isla frowned, how could he possibly help? A thought came to her mind and she blushed hard.
