17. Self Interference

The communist society of the Niveans are really handled well considering the upsetting flaws of that philosophy. "Under my jurisdiction, no crime has been committed as all assets as distributed equally. Of course, there was some certain setbacks with this regime." She looked around for a bit.

"I'm impressed. A working, slightly-utopian communist society is something that's only theoretical. Although, as a skeptic are you sure this is gonna go long-term?" He asked her.

"To be frank, I'm not sure. This world survived hell for 100 years, and I don't want another uprising." She answered.

"Hmm, well let's not dwell on that. I'm here for a reason, and that is figuring out why my anti-earthquake mechanism didn't stop the vibrations. And for me to figure that out, I'm here to learn more about where you get your power from." He went straight for the case.

"Getting straight to the point. Follow me." She then called a cab and a cool-looking black car approached them and the two entered as they drove through the city. After leaving the confines of the city, they have arrived at the furthest point of the cavern basin.

It was a power plant, filled to the brim with security guards with the whole place under strict security measures. Leaving the car, the two walked to the gate as the guard allows them access due to her presence.

Entering inside, the lights turned on and to his surprise, there was nothing. "You said they draw power from geothermal energy!" He looked back at Vixen, already suspicious of her.

"This power plant harnesses something else. Let me show you." She said as they reached an elevator at the back end of the entire empty room. They descended to the deepest part of the city. The door opened and there was a viewpoint. Lots of wires and tubes were seen as it points down and there was a low growling sound heard underneath.

He was unnerved and when he looked down, his face was etched with pure horror. There were only a few words left to describe the abomination underneath. It's face couldn't be comprehended in any way shape or form. "What is that?" He asked her.

"This monstrosity, is about the size of the whole Europe and Asia combined. What you see right now is its face." She said in a more scared tone.

"We don't even know how or why did it come here but when we first discovered it, it was sleeping. But one of ours ended up killing himself after the experience." She continued.

"Then what's with the wires and tubes attached to it?" He asked her.

"Turns out, this thing secretes a poisonous substance that when heated, it turns into hydrogen and helium, which is utilized by our fusion reactors outside this facility." A long sigh leaves Vixen's mouth as Garrick stopped looking at it without wrecking his mental psyche.

After leaving the empty room, they sat down looking at the giant cave basin as the city continues bustling, possibly oblivious to the giant sleeping underneath the Earth's crust. "Does the creature know?" He asked her and she shook her head.

"The creature is asleep, for hundreds of thousands of years as there hasn't been any historical events that we know correlating to his existence, and is completely unaware of his environment." She answered.

An explosion was heard in the distance, as smoke was visible in the city. Vixen and Garrick quickly got up on their feet and entered the vehicle as they drove back in the city. In the midst of the smoke, there was fighting but they couldn't get a good look on who's fighting who.

The two got out of the car quick and saw the armed Niveans on the floor beaten up by something. The smoke clears and they saw a rampaging Nivean but upon closer inspection, his eyes were bloodshot red and his body physique was changed.

Looks like the armed police tried to subdue this maniac but to no avail, suggesting increased physical strength. The angry Nivean saw the two and began to ran frantically towards them.

Fortunately, a helicopter above them arrived and shot a net trap at the individual, successfully detaining him as it tried to escape the net to no avail. "What happened here?" The Judge asked as she tried to catch her breath with Garrick walking close to it and observing him struggling.

"This happened a few minutes ago. He complained about loud voices in his head and the next second, he started lashing out and attacking everybody. We're taking him to the hospital to check on his condition." The surviving police officer explained as ambulances arrived to the scene and sedated the man.
