I saw the moon was shining bright and the stars twinkling in the sky, the roads were empty with flickering streetlights and children were playing. I could hear the sound of breeze and the trees swaying in a rhythm, it made me feel euphoric. I was startled by hearing a voice from behind, it was a voice which makes my heart flutter. And in that silent night hearing his voice made me feel like a morning coffee which was deep and addicting. I knew who it was, I turned back and looked at Austin. He wore a white shirt and a black jeans, his thick black and light brown hair was shining as always. As the wind blew through my hair, I tucked it behind my ear. "Beautiful," I heard him saying and when I looked at him I saw him looking at the stars. "Indeed," I replied and finished my juice in one gulp. He was looking only at the stars and admiring them while I was looking at the stars and at him. //I DO NOT OWN THE COVER /// This is my first novel. Hope you guys like it and if possible support me.

Cupid's Arrow

He unbuttoned the first two buttons of her top.

"Aus_tin!!" she called his name to stop him from unbuttoning her top further.

He hummed and stopped what he was doing.

"Your phone is vibrating," she said.

Austin who was above her with his legs on either sides, got up from the bed reluctantly. He took his phone and answered the call. It was Steve, his assistant.

"How did it even happen?" he frowned as he questioned his asistant. His expressions turned cold. Just by looking at his face Jessica could tell that something was wrong.

"Okay," he said before ending the call.

"Is everything alright?" she asked him out of concern as she got down the bed.

"I have to go to Newyork right now to deal with the failed negotiations," he replied.

"When will you come back?" she asked him in anticipation.

"A week or more than that," his answer made a gloomy glint flash across her eyes.

"A week?" she repeated in a faint voice.

"Yes," he sighed caressing her hair after looking at her expressions. He didn't want to leave her but he had no other choice.

"Can't I come with you?" she wanted to ask him but she didn't. Because she knew that he won't be able to concentrate on his work if she goes with him.

"Let me help you to pack your clothes," Jessica said and took out his clothes from his wardrobe and packed while he was on a call.

"I'll wait for you," she forced a smile upon her face.

"I hope I won't keep you wait for too long Mrs. Ames," he said to see her smile a little.

He gave a quick kiss on her forehead before leaving.

After going back to her room, Jessica recollected what her mother-in-law once said to her. Alicia told her that Austin's father was always busy and seldom gave time for his family due to which they often argued and at the end those arguments led Alicia to ask for a divorce from her husband. Alicia told how much she regretted for not understanding her husband's love for her. Jessica who was upset with Austin's behaviour realised that, he did nothing wrong for her to be upset with Austin. She realised that whatever Austin did was not because he wanted to hide things from her but because he loved her and wanted to protect her. At first, she wanted to apologize him because of her cold behaviour towards him in the morning but now she felt that she was right and at the same time Austin was right too, the only difference was that they had their own point of views.

Austin was busy talking to Steve but a part of his mind kept thinking about his wife. He wanted to talk to her atleast on the phone but he couldn't because he was busy listening to Steve and the vice president who were sitting with him in his car. He unlocked his phone to text her. His wallpaper was Jessica's picture, she had a bright smile on her face in that picture. He blamed himself for leaving her at his home when she wanted him to love her with all he had few minutes ago. He typed and sent her a message

"Take care!"

Jessica who kept thinking about him since the moment he left saw his message.

"You too! "

She texted him back.

They both had a smile on their faces before putting their phone away. Jessica drifted into sleep while Austin kept himself busy looking at the files.

The next morning, Jessica woke up and checked her phone, there was no reply from him which wasn't new to her. She went to office like always, people greeted her as she was their CEO's wife. But her team mates treats her as their colleague. It was few months ago when Jessica requested them to treat her equally as they were working as a team, since then slowly her team mates became close to her. After working till eight in her office, she came back home and slept early and that continued for three days .

"The same old story?" Rachel said on the phone when Jessica told about things that took place four days ago.

"Yes Rach," Jessica replied faintly.

"Don't worry, he'll come back to you soon," Rachel said.

"I know he will," Jessica replied confidently making Rachel chuckle.

"Then what are you worried about?" Rachel asked her.

"I just hope he won't misunderstand me," she answered.

"Listen Jessica, People have their own way of expressing their love. Some show through their words, they share about their day and talk for hours like you and on the other hand, there are people who show through their actions instead of long chats like Austin. Your guy is a kind of person who talks less and does more than what he says. I could tell that because of the things he has done for you until now and I'm sure he won't misunderstand you," Rachel said.

"I know that," Jessica laughed.

"Then why do you sound depressed?" Rachel quired.

"Because I miss him,"Jessica answered and their conversation continued for another hour.

It has been five days since Austin left to Newyork. On the fifth day, Jessica checked her phone as soon as she wokeup but this time she received a text message from her husband.

"The driver will pick you up. I'll be waiting for you at Oasis. Come prepared."

The last two words got stuck on her mind.

"He is talking about the things which were left unfinished on that night," Jessica thought and gulped looked at the phone.

She took a shower and tried all the dresses she had in her wardrobe. She selected a peach colour dress to wear. From Austin's house, It would take four hours to reach Oasis but the driver took her there within three hours. Her heart raced the moment she saw Austin standing in front of her after alighting from the car.

The driver left after dropping them. A couple who were a little away from them, were in their own world. There were other people too at that place but they were very far away from them.

"Did you miss me ?" he asked her tucking her hair behind her ear after he came close to her.

Her eyes were filled with tears as she nodded her head up and down while saying yes.

"Even I missed you," he said and hugged her.

"The girl who came seven years ago, never thought that one day she would marry the guy she loved," Jessica said about herself in his embrace.

"But the guy did!!" Austin replied and hugged her tighter.

She heard his voice for the first time on their school's feast while he was giving a speech, she felt an arrow struck her heart at that time and now after listening to his words at this moment, she felt his words like a cupid's arrow which struck her heart once again.
