Chapter 4: The Trolls

Bilbo was tasked to bring some stew to Filli and Killi who were told to watch over the ponies by Thorin. Bilbo walked over with two bowls and he tried to hand them to the two dwarves only to see they were deep in thought.

"What's the matter?" Bilbo asked.

"We were supposed to watch over the ponies." Killi said.

"But we've run into a slight problem." Filli said.

"We had 16, now there's 14." Killi said.

"Daisy and Bungo are missing." Killi said as he started to walk through the group of horses.

"Thats not good and that hehe is not good at all." Bilbo said, chuckling nervously after seeing a giant overturned tree.

"Should we tell Thorin?" Bilbo asked.

"Uh, no. It's best not to worry him. As our official burglar we thought you might want to look into it." Filli said.

"Well that's not a good idea at all." I said as I had walked up to the group.

Filli and Killi looked shocked and unsheathed their swords until turning around and seeing their resident Wizard, well at least one of them.

"What do you mean?" Filli asked.

"Our burglar doesn't even have a weapon and you want to send him to investigate something very possibly dangerous all alone?" I asked.

"Uh, no we just thought him being so nimble and small he'd be able to investigate very quietly." Killi said.

"Bilbo is under my protection and I will not have him sent into a dangerous situation without informing me is that clear?!?" I asked with my aura releasing and slowly growing in intensity until near the end the two dwarves felt they were having trouble breathing.

"Yes of course Master Wizard." Filli said with difficulty.

"We meant nothing by it." Killi said

All of the sudden the pressure dissipated instantly and I looked at them.

"Very good. I'm sorry I had to be rough on ya lads, I made a promise to keep Bilbo safe and I take my promise very seriously." I said cheerfully.

"It is alright Mr. Rozahr. We dwarves understand honor and keeping to your oaths" Killi said.

'He is truly awe inspiring. Worthy of being called a wizard.' Killi thought.

"Of course Mr. Rozahr, we only thought to be able to make good use of his skills." Filli said.

"That is all well and good, but you musn't forget that he doesn't have a weapon and is obviously very new to these types of situations so try to ensure he at least has some sort of reinforcements." I said to which they nodded.

I then stopped and turned to Bilbo."Have you studied the magic notes I gave you regarding Earth magic?" I asked.

"Yes, I have studied them extensively, but I have yet to attempt a spell." Bilbo explained happy for the prospect of possibly being able to use magic.

I nodded and then looked to the right and saw a light.

"Hmm, what is that light?" I asked.

The other three looked to where I was and saw a orange light.

We made our way over toward the light and could see shadows cast by the light and could hear three distinct voices.

"Haha it's only Trolls. I shall make quick work of them. Care to watch?" I said and asked teasingly.

"To watch a wizard in action? I wouldn't miss it!" Killi said excitedly.

"Yes i believe it will be quite the show." Filli said.

"Are you sure it will be safe Rozahr?" Bilbo asked concerned

"I appreciate your concern dear boy, but a couple of dumb slow trolls are nothing for a wizard such as myself." I said confidently.

We slowly walked closer to the group and did stop and hide as we heard a loud noise of something moving through the foliage, only to see a troll passing by carrying another two ponies.

"He's got Myrtle and Minty!" Bilbo exclaimed.

"Don't worry I will save them. Now let me show you some more Sun Magic." I said as I walked into the group of trolls.

'Finales Funkeln'

I said and a bright white light escaped from my staff blinding the trolls.

"Ahh me eyes, he urt me eyes!!" One of the trolls screamed.

"Don't worry they won't hurt for much longer." I said as I cast another spell.

I knew trolls had a hide that was resistant towards magic so I had to go for the more powerful spells.

'Lux Tormento'

A powerful beam of fire was launched from my staff. The spell itself was already very powerful and could even melt the flesh of a wyvern, and that is all without being boosted by my staff. The boost from my staff was like giving wings to a tiger.

When the beam of fire landed on the troll I aimed it towards it was immediately being burned to ashes bit by bit.

"AHHHHH BURT HELP ME HE'S BURNING ME!!" The troll screamed for help from one of the other trolls but they were still affected by the blinding light earlier.

Before the other trolls could recover, I cast another spell.

'Aspiro Frigas'

A large batch of ice was created and sent from my staff, freezing the remaining trolls in place. I then looked around and saw the horses being tied down by ropes.

'Ferrum Venti'

A large blade of wind was sent from my hand this time and cut the ropes. The ponies all rushed off and were herded back to the other ponies by Filli and Killi

I stopped to looked at the two frozen trolls and was trying to think of good spell to shatter them when all of the sudden a fourth troll that was quite a bit larger than the others came from the woods and smacked me with his club.

I went flying towards a tree and was slammed into it.

~CRACK~

I heard a sickening cracking sound and a pain in my ribs. I had surely broken a few. The giant troll came bouncing toward me and I had to quickly cast a powerful spell but first I needed to incapacitate the troll as stronger spells take a little longer to build up the magic for.

'Terram Agito'

After I cast that Earth Magic Spell, the earth beneath the troll turned to mud and the troll sunk very quickly. The troll was struggling to get out of the mud and as it was doing that, I positioned myself so my spell could kill all three trolls at once.

As i began to draw the rune, sparks of lightning began to form on my staff.

'Fulgur Mortifer'

A large deadly bolt of lightning shot from my staff and went through the two frozen trolls, instantly shattering them and then finally landed at the half sunken torso of the last troll, and the water in the mud made it even worse for the troll as the lightning was interacting with the water to electrocute the troll even more. The spell finally ended and the troll was completely burned black and a terrible smell of burning troll was filling the air.

I quickly cast a Sun Magic spell to burn the body to ashes and used a Sky Magic spell to blow away the ashes and the smell.

After all that, the other dwarves came rushing in, most likely brought by Filli and Killi they saw two shattered pieces of ice that had what looked like troll parts inside them and then they saw a giant bubbling pit of mud and then a little ways away from the pit they saw the wizard Rozahr he was bleeding heavily from his torso and had many cuts and gashes on his face.

"Rozahr!!" Bilbo shouted as he ran over to me.

"What happened, I thought you had things under control?!?" Killi asked.

"Fourth troll...didn't see...much bigger...than the others." I explained weakly struggling to get the words out as many of my ribs were not only broken, but caved in pressing on my lungs.

Just after I got the words out I started to pass out only to be caught by a suddenly arriving Gandalf.

"I am here my friend do not worry. You have done well, rest now, rest and recover." He said.

Those were the last words I heard before my consciousness faded to black.
