Prologue

Vera "Raven'' Malice is a short girl with wavy jet-black hair. Her eyes are the color of steely grey with a round face, narrow nose, defined cheekbones, and a thin body. Her eyes hold this stone-cold gaze showing no emotion on her face. If looks could kill, her eyes would do just the trick. Being raised and groomed to go to the best school, Ilver-Lilywood, to beat the other students for the throne.

The Malice's raised Raven to be ruthless, determined, and strong. They taught her love is a weakness and friendships are hogwash, and they will not get her anywhere near the throne. Raven's parents were not able to beat the Dain family because their powers were too weak for ascension to the throne.

The power of the Dain's were too great against the Malice's powers of fire and light. Compared to the current King, their shows of power were mere tricks of what he could do. The King could create terrific snow storms blinding an opponent's view, turn someone to ice in mere seconds, and worst of all, freeze an opponent's legs and they can break off instantly from the slightest pressure. Even he was at the top of his class throughout all his school years. Besting Raven's parents making them tie for second place.

The Prince of Silvestra, William Dain is a sweet boy with a devilish smile. His hair is platinum blonde with sea-green eyes. His eyes can change from bright green with a hint of blue, to dark green when he is upset. Nowadays, his eyes are mostly dim and missing the glare of mischief matching a smirk on his face. He is too focused on pleasing his parents and joining the Hiems House. Both of his parents, Lucinda and Harold Dain, the King and Queen, have high expectations for him.

They expect him to be just like them. An ice wielder in the Hiems house. The top of his class just like his father was through all six years of schooling. It's a lot of pressure to put on one child, but his parents want the family to continue being on the throne for another generation. Maybe for more to come.

Every generation, students go to Ilver-Lilywood to prove what they are capable of. To decide the fate of their lives. Determining their rank in society and what job occupations they can succeed in by how well they do in school. Those six crucial years are closely watched by their development with their powers and their academics.

This is how the region of Silvestra's rulers came to the throne. Ever since the war, the council decided to let the school show who would be the next ruler to come into power. The students there would prove themselves by improving their skills academically and by improving their powers. In every generation, the students will join Ilver-Lilywood at the age of twelve and leave at the age of eighteen. There the council will decide their future occupations and whether they are worthy enough to be either the King or Queen of Silvestra. Only the person who has been at the top of the class each year would be worthy of the title of King or Queen.

Each family belongs to a house: Cadere, Aestas, Hiems, and Fons. Each person has a gift based on their lineage. It is rare for someone to get another gift that is different than their family's. The Cadere House is red and gold, and each person has a gift of one of the elements. Either air or earth. The Aestas House is yellow and black. They control fire and light. The Hiems House is blue and white, and they have the ability to control ice. The Fons House is green and brown, and they can control the growth of plants and animals, and they control the element of water. Each student has an ability, but they cannot unlock it before they begin their time at Ilver-Lilywood.
