New life in Tacoma

Kehna’s POV

"Kehna wake up!" my mom yelled.

I was the only child in the family, we lived in a small village called Tacoma. We weren't rich, we couldn't even afford a good apartment to live in.

We moved from Mexico to Tacoma, and today is my first day at school.

"Kehna wake up you'll be late on your first day" my mom shouted again. Murmuring I got out of bed and went to shower.

My dad already had a job he would wake up midnights because he worked in a bakery and would come back home forenoon. We only saw each other later in the day. Even though I and my father didn't have a good relationship with another, we always try to be a united family.

After dressing up, I went straight to the kitchen where my mom was. "Good morning mom".

"Good morning darling, how was your night?"

"Um... my back and shoulders hurt so much" I replied.

"Don't worry when you come back from school, I'll give you a massage, what do you think about that?"

"That would be great, thanks".

Looking at the clock my eyes popped out “HOLY GHOST MOM I NEED TO GO, LOVE YOU BYE!”.

I quickly took a slice of toast and bid goodbye. After that, I ran like I was running for my life.

"Dang it! I can't be late on my first day, that won't be a good first impression" I complained.

I ran and luckily met the bus and quickly took the first empty seat I saw.

A girl was already sitting on the other seat, I noticed that after I sat down.

"Hi I'm Ruby, are you new here?" Before I could answer her question, I first observed her movements and the kind of smile she had sitting on her lips.

Ruby was a very well-known girl in that village. She and her family had made themselves famous in that village not just because of their wealth but because of their unclean deeds.

"Do you know which class you've been set into?"

"I'm in the 8th grade, but I don't know which one exactly"

"Well great, I'm in the 8th grade too, don't worry I'll show you everything at school.

I wasn't always the one who makes friends easily, but the way this so-called Ruby approached me on my first day might actually be a sign that this school year is going to be excellent.

"When we get to school I'll show you everything you need to know, okay?" Ruby stated. I then nodded in response. We talked a bit more about things outside school, but then I realized that most students were staring at us, most especially at me. And I could only stare back at them.

And yeah, Ruby showed me the school and my schedules, the students were really strange, they continued mumbling things. I didn't have time to talk get to know the other students

I only got to know their names. And turns out that I and Ruby were actually in the same class. What a coincidence. I thought.

The school bell rang for the last time indicating that school was over

“For the love of Christ, my savior thank you for putting a temporary ending to this jail,” I thought out loud.

Before I could think of anything further than that, my thoughts were halted by Ruby who was penetrating a black car with tinted windows.

I kept wondering but didn't really make a big deal out of it.
