Chapter 2

Class goes by in a blur with my preoccupied thoughts. It might be a first for me since I usually pay close attention to what the teacher says. For some reason Alex stays back to talk to the teacher. This might be the moment that he catches wind of the mate bond which of course is why his girlfriend is standing by the door with her 'friends' chatting away. I go to pass him when his head pops up and he takes a big inhale. "Mate."

Shit. He said it loud enough his girlfriend stopped talking and is staring at us. I stare at him and wait to see what will happen. There is a big pause before I hear a screeched WHAT behind me. My eyes widen before I whip my head around to see an angry female coming at us with full venom. "This is not happening! She is not your mate! I am!"

"Well this is not exactly what I wanted today." I sarcastically reply.

"Bitch! You are trying to steal my boyfriend! He is mine!"

Alex glances between us before stepping up to Savannah and putting an arm around her waist. "I, Alex Carter, reject you Vivienne Bishop."

"I, Vivienne Bishop, accept your rejection." I refuse to show any pain with the bond breaking between us. I catch his wince before I spin on my heel and walk away. There is no use standing around wishing for what could have been or begging for a chance. Some people refuse to change their life or accept something good. I plan to let regret be a strong motivator.

By lunch the school has heard what happened and I refuse to act any different. They may think this would break me but I am strong. I won't have someone hurt me that easily. The bond just puts compatible pairs together. Time and effort builds that bond into love and trust. Alex didn't want to nurture it so I won't cry over the situation but move on.

"Vi!" I pause to wait for Violet. "So I have heard by now the rumors but I need to know what happened?" We start towards our table in the grass.

"Well first class of the day led me to my mate. Of course it would be Alex but he didn't know since I sit in the back of the class. Honestly he probably still wouldn't know if he hadn't decided to stop at the teachers desk. It happened to be my luck that princess bitch was waiting at the door when he realized what I was. The rest is her yelling and our rejections of each other. He decided I wasn't what he wanted I guess." I sit down and pull out my lunch. I just wanted some carrots, ranch, and a chicken ceasar salad today.

"So you mean to tell me that fucker got to know who his mate was and decided they were not worth it? Everyone waits for their mate because they want that connection. He just tossed it aside with lack of care and his girlfriend has been saying you have tried to take him from her. What a great couple."

"I don't really care beyond some anger at the complete dismissal of the bond. They can mate each other and lack the connection for the rest of their lives. If things go sideways she could end up finding her mate and leaving him. Karmatic justice or something."

"You are taking this far better than I thought you would. Honestly I didn't know if I would find you angry or crying." She stares at my face trying to gauge my reactions.

"Nah. That would give them something to spread even worse then the current rumors. I don't want to give them anything else. Plus we have an event coming up don't we?" I grin at her.

"I guess the ball would be a big event. I am happy we are hosting it this year. Imagine if it was on the East Coast? All the traveling they have to do compared to us. I'll be happy to see it here in our humble Montana."

"Exactly. We can go shopping this weekend for our dresses?"

"Sounds perfect. You driving?"

"I don't see why not. I love you but you are a menace to the roads. Curbs, other cars, and pedestrians are not safe."

"I would argue but the accidents speak for themselves." She sighs wistfully.

"Thought so." We get up for class.
