A Descendant Of The Lightning Dragon

'' Welcome, the first phase shall now commence. '' A voice resounded in everyone's mind.

Again, every participant present in front of the ginormous crystal tower felt their vision black out before they regain it almost instantly.

They had been transferred to the inside of the tower but contrary to the beautiful atmosphere that the tower gave from the outside, the place they found themselves was dreadful looking. It was a dark tunnel that no one among the participants could see its end, on the ground were scattered remains of grey bones and rotten flesh of who knows what species. The tunnel was large as it contained one thousand participants conveniently and on its black walls were blood stains, raising one's head, one could see the red eerie roof and the stench of blood was thick from above. A cold impure wind that made one feel chills physically and mentally occasionally howled.

'' Just…where is this? '' One of the participants uttered while gripping his trouser tight. The person close to him could hear his irregular breathing and his heartbeat picked up a pace.

As if answering his question, a figure appeared midair in front of the participants and spoke in a solemn tone.

'' The first phase of the combat exam shall now begin.'' The figure was that of a lady in her early thirties. She had long jet black hair that was tied in a ponytail and it coiled down to her bum. She had downwardly angled eyebrows that matched the colour of her hair and her sharp eyes and nose gave the atmosphere around her a crispy touch, as she spoke, her thin rosy lips were revealed and her light skin made her facial features even more menacing, she was also clad in the examiners green coat but she wore a hip length black battle gown that had blue designs at its end.

'' You have to continue racing till you reached the end of the tunnel, and those who complete that shall pass, as for those that are unable to finish the race, there's only one reward for failure…'' She paused and sent a cold gaze in the participants' direction which made most of them gulp.

'' Death! '' She completed her statement with no emotions.

'' Gasp! '' Every participant shivered and their pupils constricted as they squinted their eyes in horror. Commotion quickly spread among them and soon enough,  noises filled the tunnel.

'' Silence! '' She muttered in a flat tone and as if they were under a technique, everywhere instantly quietened.

'' That's not all, your bracelet has been supplied with basic necessities and you may share or steal from others. ''

Another gasp followed but she didn't mind the participants' confusion. '' You can forfeit the exam now when you still can, you will be disqualified and sent back home alive, and if you choose otherwise, well no one can guarantee your safety. '' Her tone wasn't courteous one bit and she spoke domineeringly.

Immediately they heard that, most of them started shivering, they had come way too far to forfeit the exam when it had not even started, however, the fear of death was something that drained them mentally and they were skeptical about the gambit.

Very few participants clicked the bracelet and they flickered with red lights, they chose to leave and not bet on their lives. There were still many participants though, and most of them were either shivering or gritting their teeth as they weighed the two choices.

The EDF wasn't done however, they still had one more thing prepared for them.

'' Sshhrrrhhh!!! '' A deafening shrill cold voice that pierced the ear of those that heard it and sent their hearts in turmoils resounded across the tunnel. An austere greenish black aura suddenly spread and all the participants lost their footing as it enveloped them. Zeralf and Endra fell on their knees and Kitasha slammed her bum on the bone remains scattered on the ground. Some participants were lying on the ground while some were close to the point of losing consciousness.

Those who could still manage turned their head backward in the direction of the aura and what they saw made their blood pressures rise to an unimaginable level and their mouths straightaway dried up, they suddenly felt weak and some people finally passed out.

Behind them was an enormous greenish black snake that reached about a kilometer in length and dozens of meters in width. He had two horns made out of black lightning and a triangular head a couple of meters long. Green lightning twirled dangerously around his giant figure. His eyes were rhomboid with pitch black eyeballs and green vertical pupils, when he opened his mouth, sharp gray teeth and a black fork tongue were revealed.

'' Puny humans! You dare give me some scarecrow role. '' He bellowed in anger and disgust. '' Fine, I shall destroy all your hatchlings muahaha. '' He released a loud rusty laugh and that made the deciding factor for most of the participants.

Red lights started flickering as many participants clicked their bracelets to forfeit the exam, if there was life, there was hope, that was what went through their heads, fuck the exam, they were done with this.

Zeralf glanced around and he couldn't help but released a short 'uh ' sound as he exhaled the breath he had been keeping inside.

'' Is… the EDF really bent on killing us? '' Kitasha muttered in a whimsical tone.

'' You should know better pfft. '' Endra retorted while also scrutinizing the big silhouette behind them

'' This is a fallen descendant of the lightning dragons, maintain half a kilometer distance as you run to the end of the tunnel and you will be fine, remember, he might be weakened but he is still at the seventh rank of the Deva hierarchy. ''

'' Start! '' The female examiner bellowed in a sharp tone. Zeralf and co took to their heels as soon as the order left her mouth, no one was going to wait to see what a fallen descendant of some fucking dragon was capable of doing.

'' To think the higher-ups will go this far to stretch their limits, the fun shall now begin hehe '' The female examiner muttered with a creepy giggle.

When Zeralf checked his bracelets, he found water and dry food that could suffice for three days there.

'' To make this phase tougher, they will definitely give us insufficient supplies since even stealing is allowed, if so, then this race will last for more than three days. '' Zeralf analyzed in his head just from the quantity of the supply he had.

He felt something coming from the back and he kicked the ground while making a frontflip midair.

'' Get out of his range as quick as you can, his aura might be terrific but only nonparticipants are facing his full power, the attacks heading for you participants have been filtered to not exceed the marble rank, however, his aura is still dangerous. '' The female examiner said while slapping away a thick green lightning bolt that came her way with her bare hands.

'' Hmph! Courting death. '' She glared at the giant snake murderously.

'' As an agent, you need to understand the overall situation before deciding on your next action, that's your first lesson. '' Her voice reached each participant clearly as though she was right beside them. None was in the form to ponder over what she said though, survival came first.

'' Off I go! '' Endra squatted while stretching his right foot forward, with a semicircular rotation to the left, he waved his scepter and it clashed with a lightning bolt that targeted his heart from the side.

'' I got this. '' Kitasha did a backflip as she waved the two swords in her grasp, one was the one Zeralf had seen before, a big double-edged sword with some carvings at the edge and the other was a long sword. She slashed with the two swords and they sliced the two lightning bolts that targeted her midback.

So far, no one was using their Ki, the food and water supplies weren't the most important to Devas, their Ki was, especially in such a perilous situation.

Zeralf had yet to manifest his Zajra and he simply dodged every attack with ease while he also increased his pace to leave the range of the suffocating aura.

Some participants weren't that lucky as somewhere were sent flying by the lightning bolts which made them rely on their Dharma sooner than they planned.

'' Hahaha! ''

'' Kill! ''

'' Kill! ''

The giant snake laughed crazily as he launched lightning bolts vigorously. The attack might be filtered but he still had large Ki reserves than the participants.

'' Oh? '' Zeralf's eyebrows arched when he felt a lightning bolt behind him, the attack power was definitely in the marble rank.

He manifested his Zajra and its ominous aura also spread although it was being suppressed. He grabbed the chain and flip backward, his Zajra curved as it followed an angular trajectory to the back, and the scythe collided with the lightning bolt while Zeralf was still in midair now facing the attack.

'' Um? '' The female examiner squinted her eyes and her ear perked up as she watched Zeralf slice the attack in half with just a swing of his Zajra. He raised his head and his white hair blew along the cold gale, his golden eye met with the snake and he teleported out of his range in one swift motion.

'' Hehe, a skilled one? '' She giggled still gazing at Zeralf's distant back view with interest. '' Let's see what you all have for us. '' Her eyes beamed with eagerness.
