I woke up to the sound of my grandmother moving around the house. I immediately got up from bed in the box of a room I had. I put on my worn-out shirt and trousers.
I went to the kitchen where I found Grandma preparing herself to leave the cottage.
She was off to go drink and play "Orso" (a game like Bingo) in town with her old lady friends for the day. Without any regard for me and my well-being. She hadn't prepared breakfast for either myself or her.
She always ate out at the pub with her friends, all three meals of the day. She didn't leave me any money or food that I could help myself with and if I asked she'd tell me she didn't have any.
She never asked what I ate and how I fed myself throughout the day either. I wasn't sure if she wanted me to live or die. She actually never really acknowledged my existence aside from when she was ordering me around.
