The Devil In Her Dreams

There was one thing Adele was running away from and that was death. Little did she know that she was going to dance with the angel of death. Or rather, the devil himself. ****** "What are you thinking, little one?" He was towering over her while she raised her head to look at him. His gloved hands were situated in his pockets as he stared down at her. "Will you do it or not?" He was serious. His eyes held no mockery or sarcasm. Adele had already made her decision. But she knew she would surely regret it in the end. "Yes... I will do it." She muttered. Her shoulders fell as those words left her mouth. There was nothing she could brag about again. "I didn't hear you. Maybe you should tone up a bit." She shut her eyes in irritation, still with her white knuckles. "I said I will do it." She swallowed to urge to haul any abusive word at him. Before he could say anything, she picked up the contract and walked past him to the desk in front of them. She took a pen and signed on every required slot. Mr. Hale wondered about the kind of woman he had landed this time. She was feisty and strange. Somehow, he couldn't read her at all. His eyes never left her, even after she signed the contract. Adele wanted to hear him tell her to leave and come back the next day. Everything was already so tiring for her and she needed rest. Plus she needed to take her drugs before she became a bloody mess. "Strip." ****** Adele just wanted to extend her lifespan so that she could bury her grandmother. But due to lack of resources, she couldn't foot her bills and ended up in the hands of the devil who promised to take away her illness. What happens when he breaks his promise and she dies? The deal 2

It was as though the whole world had paused for a few seconds. She could only hear her heart beats and she could only see his red balls boring deep into her soul.

'Did he just ask me to remove my clothes?' She thought. She was utterly disgusted by his attitude and prayed for the ground to open up and swallow her.

"Didn't you hear me?" He took slow but loud predatory steps toward her. Out of shock, Adele began to move backward but ended up hitting the edge of the desk. She clicked her tongue when she found out there was no means of escape for her.

Mr. Hale tilted his head while staring at her. He was expecting her to just do as he said, just like other ladies whom he had come in contact with.

"Is that too hard for you?" He corked a brow. This woman was too difficult to understand. One moment, she is fierce and aggressive. At another moment, she is fragile and scared. Her mood swings were incomprehensible.

"Or perhaps, are you untouched?"

When she didn't answer, his eyes lightened up with mischievousness.

'Interesting.' He thought to himself. He was already thinking of plans to tease her a little bit more when a knock came on his door. He checked his clock. It was past ten. He wasn't expecting anybody nor did he have any scheduled meeting.

Who dared to ruin his fun?

He shut his eyes and smiled.

"Your luck must be good, little blue." He walked back to his seat and gave permission to the intruder. Adele let out a sigh of relief upon the unexpected event and thanked whoever interrupted them.

"I will see you later, little blue. As you have seen in the contract, your time started the moment you signed the contract. It was exactly ten minutes past ten."

Adele nodded at the information. The guard walked in and dropped the letter in his hand bowed a little, and exited the room.

"You may leave."

She turned to leave the room without a word but a yank on her hair stopped her. She winced at the pain it generated in her head.

"Stop! You're hurting me!" She complained but his grip was strong.

"Pride or whatever you feel, you must never disrespect me, little mouse," His voice was stern and icy. It was the dangerous tone he had always used in her dreams and even on the first day she met him. There was something about his voice that sent shivers down her crest.

"You must address me properly or else, you won't like the outcome. Now, address me as stated in the contract." She could feel his hot breath on her skin. He yanked her hair hard enough to make her yell again. Tears built up in the corner of her eyes.

"I'm sorry... Ma... Mas... Master..." She choked. She was irritated by herself. She knew she would regret her decision later on. It wasn't possible to change the hands of time. She was already his property and he could deal with her however he pleased.

"You need to learn some manners," He pushed her away from his desk, making her fall to the ground. Her eyes never met his own until she stood up and left the room.

"You were too harsh, little brother." A voice spoke from behind him after he had sat back in his seat.

"I do whatever I want." He scoffed.

"She seems quite different from the rest."

"That's how they are at first. She will reveal her true nature in time to come." He clicked his tongue.

"Alright, see you later."

Mr. Hale's eyes came in contact with the shadow on the wall. It waved and disappeared. He rolled his eyes and went back to his work.

*********

Adele couldn't fathom what had happened in there. Was he planning to do something nasty to her in there? If it was in a more discreet place, it would be understandable. It was an office that probably had security cameras. How could he not be that thoughtful of privacy?

She boarded a taxi straight to the house. Gina was around and Lance was busy with a client's job. She was happy that there was no one to see her sad face. She had a long day, even though it had just clocked eleven in the morning. Since she started the contract at ten past ten, it would last till Thursday morning.

"Only thirty minutes in there felt like hell. Imagine seventy two hours. I'm going to end up dying before my time." She collapsed on her bed. It was warm and cozy, she felt as though she was on the cloud, devoid of thinking and uncertainty.

Before she knew it, she had slept off.

"Adele! Adele!!" She heard but she couldn't move. She just stood in the darkness, wondering where she was and who was calling her name.

'Lance!' She looked around but couldn't find anyone. She couldn't even speak. She just stood still hoping that faze would end. She didn't know where she was or what to do. What could be worse than that?

Suddenly, the entire room became brighter and she could see a figure. Suddenly, she began to move toward the figure only to find out it was him, Mr. Hale!

He had his usual dangerous smile plastered on his face and his sparkling red orbs spurred something in her.

She tried to run away from him but couldn't. She was stuck again. He raised his hand. Scared he would hit her, she frightfully turned her face. She had already prepared her mind for a stinging pain but she got a gentle touch instead.

"Wake up, my little blue mouse. Daddy's here to see you."

Adele's eyes immediately opened with an appalling gasp. Her face looked pale like it had been ridden of blood. Though her vision was still blurry, she could make out that she wasn't in her room at Gina's house. She was at the hospital. It happened that when she got up, in the middle of her sleep, she developed a complication in her body system due to the rising multiplication of the fatal cells in her.

"Lance..." She breathed out slowly. There was an oxygen mask over her nose and mouth which helped her to stay alive. Lance quickly left what he was doing to attend to her.

"You're okay, Adele. You'll be fine." He assured her with a weak smile. Her condition wasn't getting any better and he still hadn't gotten the money for her surgery.

"Lance..." She called again.

"I'm sorry, coming up with the money was slower than I thought. You have to wait for me," He caressed her hair gently and lowered his face to hers. The door was opened without a knock and Mr. Hale walked in with a grim expression.

"Get away from her," He harshly said as he approached them.

"Excuse me? Who the f**k are you?" Lance interrogated angrily.

"How dare you barge in here with your fugly face and tell me what to do with my best friend?"

"Oh?" Mr. Hale tilted his head with a corky smile.

"You're her best friend. I've never heard anything about you." Mr. Hale was lying. He knew a lot about Lance and Gina when he asked for Adele's life history to be looked into.

"Well, 'best friend', I am her man and I'm asking you to step away from my woman." He said with a huge but deadly smile.
