Maddy took the yucky, multicolored print bedspread off one of the beds and threw it into an empty corner near the bathroom. She pulled back the blanket and inspected the sheets; they looked clean enough and passed her inspection, so she sat down on the bed. A few seconds later she paced across the room at the foot of the beds. It would soon be dark. She had to think. She needed an escape plan in place when the stranger dressed in black came back.
Why me? What have I done that this monster of a man chose me to abduct and hold hostage somewhere?
She stared out the window at the empty parking lot, hoping to see a car, somebody, anybody, walk by on their way to any of the other rooms.
She didn't see the man in black again before she drifted off to sleep with dried tears on her cheeks.
