Chapter 143
Maddy pulled into a parking spot at the local grocery store and checked her list before she walked inside. She finished quickly and returned to her car, unlocked the trunk, and loaded it with bags.
After pushing the cart out of the way, she hurried to the driver's side, thinking about everything she had to do. Startled to find the door slightly open, she stepped back. A shiver slid down her spine, and she clutched her hand to her chest and glanced around the parking lot. Only a few cars remained with no security person in sight. She could have sworn she had securely closed and locked the door.
Nothing she could do about it now. She shrugged and opened the door wider, tossed her purse on the shotgun seat, and was about to start the car when suddenly the passenger door opened.
A strange man, dressed all in black, wearing a dark ski mask with only his eyes showing-jumped into her car and pointed a handgun directly at her chest. She gasped and froze.
