Angel managed to get me a change of clothes before she departed to her room. Night had already come upon us. I used the free time to freshen up and get dressed for bed.
When I got out of the bathroom, Sabastian had made full use of the bed. He didn't even look up when I walked into the room. I grabbed one of the pillows and summoned a second set of sheets.
Sabastian eyed me. "What are you doing?"
I spread one of the sheets on the ground. "I'm making a bed."
He sat up. "What for?"
I threw the pillow on the sheet. "Because I want to lie down and you're occupying that one."
His eyebrows sank a little on his face. "You're annoying. This bed is big enough to hold the both of us. You're sleeping beside me."
Like hell, I would.
Even if the confidence wasn't in his voice, I wouldn't. Something was wrong with me. I kept getting these odd sensations and we weren't intimate. Imagine what would happen if we did get close.
Not to mention the fact I was upset because he allowed Angel to rub all over him without saying a word. He had to notice she touched him far too often. And, she chose to touch him at the most inappropriate places: his tight, his chest. If they wanted to be alone, they should have given me the single room. I would have been quite happy to be on my own.
I didn't even know why I cared. It was not like I liked the guy. I knew dislike was the only feeling that consumed me when he was around. I wasn't new to the whole crush and like thing. I have experienced it before. All the butterflies when the guy came around. The daydreaming when he wasn't. This scenario had neither of the two.
Yet, I had to leave the room when Angel started whispering in his ear. Dark thoughts invaded my mind. The most recurring one was murdering her. I had to escape to the bathroom in order to not yell at them. These emotions were unsettling. I did not like them one bit.
Sabastian piled the sheets of padding I made on the floor and tossed the pillow back on the bed.
"Hey?" I attempted to snatch the items from him but he dodged me. "What are you doing?"
He flung the sheets on the bed. "You were ignoring me. I don't like to be ignored. We are sleeping on the bed. Together. Either you come willingly or not. I'm a patient man. I can just wait until you fall asleep to transfer you from the floor to the bed."
Why you…
This man had no pride. Why was it that I was the one who got stuck with him?
"I'm sleeping under my sheet," I grumbled, plodding to the bed. "And, you keep your hands to yourself."
He appeared to be a little disgusted with the idea of such acts. I looked away. Another sensation took over. Sadness. Anger. Disappointment. Yes, that was the one. But, why was I disappointed?
He pulled me onto the bed when he thought I was taking too long. A squeal parted my lips. My face slammed into strong chest muscles. Sabastian rolled and planted me on the mattress. My heart leaped at the sudden thrust into the bed. I blew the hair out of my face. Sabastian cocked his head, studying me.
"What?" I breathed out.
Instead of answering, he leaned into me. My eyes bulged and I stiffened.
I swallowed aloud. "What are you doing?"
My breath got labored the lower his head got to mine. He buried his face in the hollow of my neck. I half sighed in relief. Then, that same disappointment returned.
"That's odd," he murmured, tickling my skin. "He said you smelt different. So why do you smell like cake?"
Who was he?
I laid still with my hands at my side. It was not that I could move, anyway. Sabastian's weight held me in place. "What are you talking about?"
He lifted his head. Gold eyes drank me in. Before I could say anything else, his lips were on mine. It was a feathery touch. The slight brush against my lips caught a flame burning in my stomach. I couldn't tell if it was of hate or something else.
Sabastian flicked off me and into the space beside me. "I don't like you."
I observed the ceiling fan. It was hard to study this man. He just kissed me. Now, he was saying he didn't like me. What was up with him?
"I've never really liked you," he continued. "You were always just too…" He rolled on his side and propped his elbow on the bed, resting his head in his palm. "You didn't fight me. I thought you would have put up a little fight. Is this what you do, go around letting strangers kiss you?"
I gapped.
Unbelievable!
My gaze darted to his. "I despise you. Do you even listen to the words that are coming out of your mouth? I don't know which planet you're from but that is not considered a kiss. Our lips barely touched, and what I do is none of your business. I can go around kissing anyone I choose. You—"
He clamped his palm over my mouth, cutting off my rant. "I promised no harm will come to you until we get to the peak place. A promise is a promise. It should never be broken. I can't keep my promise if you keep talking like that."
I yelled behind his palm. He pressed it closer to my lips.
"If you don't shut up, I'll have to make you." His tone was casual. "I'll promise you it may be something you won't like."
A list of ideas swam to the forefront of my mind. Torture stood out among the rest. The image of how he looked in his wolf form swallowed the other images. Beautiful yet scary. The hard truth was I couldn't take him on and win. He was way too strong. I needed a vast space to get an advantage against such a large beast. This was a fight I had to evade. For now.
I sighed and relaxed.
Sabastian moved his hand. "Good girl."
My lips parted with a comeback but he arched a brow. I choked it down and turned my back to him.
Such a jerk!
I had to endure this until we got to Destiny Peak. Angel wanted something from us. It seemed she wasn't going to let us leave this place until she got it. Therefore, I couldn't run. I had to face this head-on. It was the only way to ensure my journey back to the human world. I needed to help Kyleon and Brianna.
Mother had promised me she would not harm them. It was the deal we made. I gave her what she wanted if she didn't kill them. Now, here I was not sure she would keep her promise. After all, this was the great heartless Deanna.
Sabastian wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me against his chest. This was the part where I should have pulled away or gotten mad. I felt like doing neither. He was just so warm and comfortable. I didn't even need the sheets. Involuntarily, I relaxed into him.
It was not a surety of when I dozed off. All I remembered was warmth. It was hard steeling myself against the comfort.
A scream knocked me out of that comfort. My eyelids flashed open. We were in darkness. All the lights in the room were off. The glow that emitted from Sabastian was what illuminated the room.
The scream came again. It did sound real, like a child. I glanced at Sabastian. He was sleeping. Angel said we should stay inside.
The wail got louder. Shouts followed. I looked at the drapes. I didn't have to go outside. The town was below. The balcony showed everything. I could just stay behind the french doors.
I sneaked out of the bed and tiptoed to the drapes. It would be harmless to take a look. If it was the ghost making all that noise, I would be more content to sleep.
I blew out my cheeks and pushed the drapes apart. It was shocking how bright the outside was. The light from the moons made everything clear as day.
I looked through the French doors. From where I was only rooftops came into view.
This time two screams pierced through the night. Curiosity got the best of me and I unlocked the doors. The click was loud enough to wake an army. Or so it seemed. I eyed Sabastian, praying he was still asleep. When he didn't move, I shoved the doors apart and stepped out onto the balcony.
A figure caught my eyes as I got to the railing. It was a woman running. She held onto the hand of a child. Dark figures chased her. Others watched with fascination.
Ugh! They were toying with her.
Enraged, I jumped from the railing. These people were despicable. How could no one not even help a woman and her child? All they had to do was open a door to let her inside.
Damn you all!
