Stranger to the Lands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since I had first met Lyria my time had been spent learning under the woman. She had taken it as her personal mission to teach me the basics of Elven. Apparently it was a mission given to her by the Arahannon, the Arch Druid, and the druids were not to be ignored lightly. I had found this out by watching someone be whipped in the camp centre. Apparently he had cheated on his wife and slept with another man's wife. The punishment was cruel in comparison to Earth but that was probably normal for a medieval society such as this.
Anyway, Lyria had spent hours and hours of her day teaching me. Her duties as a ranger were most likely postponed for this venture as she did not leave me alone for even a minute. It was working as well, I was now able to understand what some of the words meant now. The Elven language was very sing-song and had a unique syntax that was almost like English but with several unique twists, mainly consisting of Ithkuil influences.
In my last life I had heard of Ithkuil through my DM that was using it to name some monsters and such... It was a unique language that attempted to make sentences fit as a single word, whilst combining the intense description of a story. Digressing away from that, Elven was very similar in some ways but also had variances that made it very intriguing. I had received a mission a couple days in and by the end of the week I had finished it, my learning of Elven having reached such a point that I thought I could understand most of what was being said.
{Completed Mission- Learn Elvish | Rewards: +2 Charisma , Wood Elf Language}
Receiving the rewards I instantly felt more confident in myself, the hushed talks of elves around the house ushering into my ear and translating instantly. More than this, I could understand it as if I were born into it. Attempts to speak the language were more than successful as the words for friend and enemy were spoken by me.
"Mellon..."
"Cotho..."
Relief buffeted the insides of my heart and mind. For a week straight I had been unable to speak and communicate, loneliness creeping inside of me despite the amount of elves around me. Now there was no such pain left, I could understand them all perfectly. Just as I finished the quest Lyria stepped into the tent, her face drop-dead gorgeous despite the small sheen of sweat that drifted from her forehead and pooled at the edges of her clothing. She mumbled a little, grumbling as she roughly threw down her ranger robes. Her brows were frowned as she bit lightly on the exterior of her lips with those pearly white teeth of hers.
"Fucking piece of shit..."
A hiss of frustration and anger resounded out once again in Elvish, my brain comprehending her words instantly. From my seated position on the floor I pushed myself up onto my feet, Lyria looking over at me in curiosity as her anger vanished.
"What's wrong Lyria?"
Whatever it was, it was far away from her mind now as currently she was staring at me gobsmacked. I smiled at her in triumph, her expression not changing at all. When I began to worry she finally broke the shock she had been absorbed within.
"You can speak already!?"
"Yes, I learn quickly. Elven is certainly interesting."
Blinking several times more Lyria eventually just exhaled, a deep sigh of surprise, frustration and exasperation escaping her lips. Choosing to rest she sat down on a small vine chair with carved wood, including etched elven runes. Feeling awkward that i was the only one standing I too sat down on a chair of similar design in the middle of a large tent that had been dedicated to me. The tent itself was verdantly patterned, several ropes holding it down from the outside alongside pitons.
"Your intelligence aside... I have had a tough week, that is all that need be said."
"Hmm, what is the issue, perhaps I can dedicate my 'intelligence' to it?"
Another exhale wafted out from her before her eyes met mine. No hilarity or joviality was present in those crystalline elven eyes, simply serene seriousness. It was somewhat concerning for me who had seen her mainly smiling throughout the days she had taught me. To be honest, she had only opened up to me a little in the last day or two, so I did not know if this was a normal thing for her but it did not slice away the intensity of her gaze.
"Can you find a way to stop my family from forcing me into a marriage? No? Didn't think so."
Wincing from her rather annoyed, frustrated and angered tone I couldn't help but curse myself. I could do nothing to help that, even if I currently tried I would be kicked out most likely and even past that my stats weren't powerful enough to even give me a chance. With my morale hanging lower than before I introspectively gazed at my status sheet. I felt weak, i was weak and I still couldn't control my life.
'Missing... Something is missing, I feel like I am missing some obvious missions...'
{Framework can suggest missions if host wishes}
'Yes! Please do!'
'Are you fucking with me now?'
There was no response as I simply looked down at the random missions I had been given. I believed that my own missions were greater for me. The wooing of Lyria seemed impossible to someone at my charisma and the rest were peripheral to my main stats. She was quite literally out of my league, I was terrifyingly aware of this fact.
A hand dropped onto my shoulder. Looking to the hand and then following the arm upwards I saw Lyria with an apologetic face frowning. Apparently my state had lead her to the conclusion that I had been hurt by the previous words of hers'.
"I apologise, it is not your fault that I am in this situation."
"That's fine, I am not hurt, it is not difficult for me to see the situation you are in and the stress that it is most likely putting you through."
"That is no excuse. You are not the one that caused my issues, thus it is my wrong-doing."
She looked pained that she had done this. Shrugging my in my mind I stood up and placed my hand on her shoulder also, looking her straight in the eyes before speaking once more.
"Don't worry about it! Friends are beyond this stuff, let's just do something else yeah?"
"Friends?"
"Yeah! You taught me an entire language, fed me and looked after me... If that isn't what makes friends, what does?"
Lyria cocked her head to the side at the logic but eventually nodded diminutively, her lips curling into a mischievous grin. The sight of her grin sent shivers running up my spinal cord, but at the very least she had shifted her mood.
"Then shall I teach you how to start campfires and track?"
'I want to create a mission for tracking...'
{8- Tracking For the Heart of Lyria| Proficiency in Survival , Boots of Elvenkind}
'The shipping is herculean!'
{Shipping implies a lack of sentiment... The Framework Luxury Cruises...}
'Am i speaking to a human? A god?'
'...'
Silence, again.
'Son of a bitch!'
Lyria grabbed me by the arm and pulled me outside, striding over to the campfire whilst pulling out a flint and steel. Beside the campfire was also a rudimentary survival campfire starter in the form of a stick.
"You will learn how to start a fire with the stick first, then we can go to the flint and steel."
{9- Start the fire | Smoke-Lighter}
'....... That is basic as fuck!'
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed! Training montage is happening a little. There will be at most one or two more skips in the early stages before I slow down.
