The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

I sighed heavily as I thought about what was going to happen next. We were headed to another city right after we finished here. I wanted to cause some havoc in the cities I'd already been in again. I debated on discussing my theories about the time element with Sekka. He was better versed in the way this world worked then I was.

As an informant he had to know more about the structure of the elves countermeasures against people like me who could use the time element. I looked at Sekka for a few minutes as I started exploring my control over time. I was probably staring at him for over an hour as he went through the motions of his swordsmanship style. It was mostly elven style swordsmanship laced with some of Letty's teachings. I wasn't the slightest bit surprised that that psychotic vampire had managed to nail a few things into his head through the few sparring sessions that they had together.

He definitely went easier on him then he did me. He justified it by stating I could regenerate while Sekka could not. Sekka noticed my gaze after he finished his routine. He looked almost startled when he realized I had been staring at him.

"I'm sorry," He nearly dropped his sword in his surprise, "I didn't know you were looking at me."

"You can relax," I waved off his worry, "I was thinking about something else. I'm curious if the elves have a time elementalist among their forces."

"They do," Sekka looked at me funny, "Why are you asking?"

"Can that time elementalist look back through time?" I tilted my head curiously.

"I don't know," Sekka looked at me with his brow furrowed, "I can barely control the space element. I don't know what a time elementalist is capable of. You're the only one I've met in person, and you don't use the time element very often."

"I have a theory that it's possible to look back through time," I pushed my hair back thoughtfully, "I guess I should experiment with what I can do with the time element."

I dropped my eyes so I was looking more at the ground since I knew how uncomfortable Sekka was with my eyes on him. I crossed my arms over my chest, and leaned back to look at the roof of the cavern. I would need to go outside to test my theories effectively, and these deep forests were known to be more dangerous then the well traveled roads. I didn't know what sort of beasts were on this planet in this forest. A big part of me wanted to stretch my wings, and go find out at the same time, but I had to squash that impulse every time it came up.

If I let it get to my head too much I might actually give in to the impulse. Staying in human form was a must for the time being. Thankfully I was comfortable in human form due to this gift the world gave me. As long as I didn't allow my reserve to fill completely I wouldn't give off any excess mana either. The crystals hidden in my forehead, and chest both generated divine energy, and hid my ability to use mana entirely.

Making me look to the elves as if I were just another mana incompatible human. It would not hide any mana I released. Thus the need to funnel my mana to the mana rings in my spatial storage. The mana rings themselves interested me. Mana conductive metal with ten cores forged into it evenly spaced around the ring.

The cores collected, and concentrated elemental mana into crystals at the center of the circle. Once a crystal was formed the circle would continue pouring power into the crystal. Slowly increasing the quality of the core over time. Cores made from mana circles formed more like natural crystals. They took longer to form, but they were overall higher quality then the artificial cores I could create in just a few minutes.

Granted that made sense. A core I made formed in just a few seconds. Cores made from the rings could take two or three days to form. At first it would be a low quality core. The longer the core remained in the circle the higher its quality would be when I removed it.

I left cores in those rings for weeks on end. Sometimes I would have to replace cores within the rings themselves, but those didn't need to be real high quality. The cores in the ring were specifically there to draw in elemental mana. Since I was fused with the vast majority of my elements, and dominant over even more elements my mana was infused with the elements. Making my mana near perfect fuel for the mana rings.

That was both good, and bad for us. The number of high quality core we had was slowly increasing. We could sell the high quality cores for more, but that meant they were harder to sell. I tapped my fingers on the cavern floor for a while. I was kind of hungry.

I hadn't eaten in the better part of a month so it wasn't surprising that I was starting to grow hungry. I just didn't know what was ok for me to eat on this planet. Not that it would matter if it were poisonous or not due to my high immunity to poisons. Add on the fact that I could replicate just about any poison I came into contact with. I planned to use my poisonous breath to paralyze large groups of elves if they came after me.

The problem was that I didn't want to poison the slaves as well. Granted the poison I planned to use was relatively harmless. That didn't stop me from trying to think of ways to prevent the slaves from getting poisoned. It might actually be better for me to poison everyone instead of just the elves. If my poison didn't affect the slaves then the slave owners might take offense in some way.
