Mary placed a hand over her heart as the door to her apartel had finally shut. She was leaning on it, her heart still hammering fast.

"Holy crap holy crap holy crap," she kept saying on repeat.

Of course. How could she forget? Shay Zephanie was married to the detective. Their wedding was on a live broadcast all over The Mesial and all over the zones.

Mary felt ridiculous now. How could she have missed that? How could she have forgotten?

She didn't notice the wedding ring though but oddly enough she noticed the tattoo etched on Shay Zephanie's left wrist. She recognized it instantly.

How could she not?

Amber, her mother's friend, used to work for Marcus Zephanie. It was how Mary became his secretary. Amber had recommended her after learning from her mother that she had recently quit her job.
