After several bursts of fire during the journey, the group of meatshields finally arrived on one of the mountains' slopes. It was here where the major ordered the soldiers to position themselves with the meatshields on their side.

Here, the sergeant stopped the troops and carefully positioned his soldiers. There was no fear of ambush from the back since it was an open flat terrain, it was impossible for the enemy to be sitting still when they traversed the cracked ground.

The only dangers are on the front. Here, the enemy could be hiding anywhere. So, the officer devised a plan. The cannon fodders will face one side while his soldiers will be aiming in another. This way, they could take care of ambushes on the west while the conscripts soaked bullets from the east.

In one particular moment, the sergeant received a signal and instantly ordered the troops to move on.

Tang Ling caught what the sergeant was doing and immediately cast [Inspect] to the man's ear.

The sergeant immediately ordered them to move on and stood in another place. They were ordered to kneel down and hold the shield until another order was given. The official soldiers were just behind, aiming their sights on the wilderness.

Five minutes, a group of soldiers appearing to scout appeared and were instantly shot down by the soldiers behind. The ones who managed to return fire died soon after.

In the meantime, Tang Ling tightened his muscles but soon relaxed them. It's not the time yet.

After the battle, the soldiers expressionlessly dealt with the corpses by dragging them away and hiding them on the corner. Although they were soldiers in different camps, they were still part of the Brokang Empire. These soldiers deserve respect.

After hiding the corpses, they began marching forward towards the battlefield. Their missions have been to kill any scouts coming their way but it seems only one group came. Now, it was time to rejoin the main group and deal with them once-and-for-all.

What they neglected however is Tang Ling silently approaching the corpses and taking the weapons in his [Inventory].

Note: Although the instruction manual states that it can reach 100m, it can barely reach 100m in the test range. The actual effective range is 50 meters.]

Description: Lightweight, durable, strong. It is made of the latest technology which was acquired by the military contractor "Wolf". Although weighing less than half the common body armor, it provides the same defense, making an ideal stamina-saver for a soldier.

There were also other weapons but Tang Ling did not dare to take any more than another rifle or two before acting as if nothing happened.

The group finally joined the main army and they could see the opposing army just in front. It seems that the major managed to corner the invaders into a fight.

Tang Ling could a giant war machine ahead. It was extremely huge, about ten men in height. It was a gargantuan moving cannon. The thing was so huge that even looking at the distance strikes fear in Tang Ling and his comrades.

[Fiery Hope Heart's passive activated. Fear cannot stand in face of hope.]

Warmth soothed his fearful heart and Tang Ling regained his composure. Gripping his spear, he waited for orders. Sure enough, they were ordered to move again, this time, they will be tanking an entire army's bullets. There was hope, however. Although they technically are regrouped with the main army, the major still separated them from the main army, fearing that stray bullets would hit the main army. As such, he positioned 30m away from the army in a wing formation. The cannon fodders' supervisor is still the same but would be doubled as another group of cannon fodders will join.

The doubling of soldiers behind his back is also more dangerous but thankfully, he had managed to acquire this Wolf T-919 Rifle which could shoot 5 rounds a second. This was probably the best firearm he can have at the moment.

Tang Ling had heard of a breakthrough in the capital, of a firearm able to shoot 10 rounds a second. Although absolutely horrendous in long-range, it could mow down everyone in a five to ten meters range. However, it had only begun producing, and mass-producing is still a long way to go. Even then, the chance of the army supplying such a firearm is small since it was absolutely useless in a range of more than twenty meters.
