Lu Yuan stood there, looking dazed and confused. Then, he received the invitation, his face still in a daze. Next, with a bewildered expression, he boarded the carriage.
And once again, he looked the old man in the carriage, still wearing a dazed look.
Phew!
He was about to meet the Sect Master of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect—Ning Fengzhi.
Though he had joked in an exaggerated manner with Ning Rongrong that day, fortunately, neither he nor Ning Rongrong took those jokes seriously. Hence, terms like "girlfriend" can't be taken seriously.
Curiously, he observed the decoration inside the carriage. His face showed a bit of caution, and he decided not to put his backpack aside. The long gun he carried before was still coiled around his waist, making his slender figure appear slightly bulky.
These minor actions did not go unnoticed by Qian Renxue and Ning Fengzhi, both vigilant individuals.
In just an instant, the two had a rough idea about the boy's background.
Picking up the exquisite teapot and pouring a cup of tea, Xue Qinghe gently pushed it toward him, careful not to make things awkward. He then withdrew his hand and introduced himself with a light tone:
"I am Prince of Heaven Doue Empure - Xue Qinghe. This is my teacher, the Sect Master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Glass Sect, along with His Majesty Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo."
"Well," Lu Yuan pulled the tea cup in front of him, which was two palms away. He put it near him, leaned on his chin, pondered for a while, and said softly:
"I am an unknown person—Liu Yuan. You can call me Xiao Liu."
Manly man, don't change your name if you're going to sit down. Thankfully, he was being genuine.
Xue Qinghe smiled gently but refrained from speaking further.
He had two reasons for it. Firstly, he didn't want to come off as overwhelming. Secondly, he feared that speaking too much might raise the other party's vigilance.
He opened his mouth to break the ice, aiming to make the first meeting less awkward and to get to know each other subtly.
Ning Fengzhi paid no heed to Xue Qinghe's cleverness and asked elegantly:
"I wonder where the young man is heading?"
Taking a sip of tea, Lu Yuan calmly gave an unexpected answer.
"I haven't decided yet. Just wandering and observing. Yes, wandering and observing."
Unaware that he had become a "topic stopper," Lu Yuan fell into silence again after responding to Ning Fengzhi's question.
He continued sipping histea.
Ning Fengzhi, wearing a polite smile, knew it was going to be another dull moment.
With two Titled Douluos present, one would expect even young people to feel some excitement. But why was this young man so calm?
Initially, Ning Fengzhi thought the boy might be too nervous and embarrassed to speak. However, now it was evident that he was just plain dull.
Eloquent people detest dullness. What's the point of being eloquent when faced with someone who is calm and composed, not arrogant or impulsive, and who only says what's necessary?
The young man simply wouldn't listen to his "persuasion" at all!
Unintentionally, Ning Fengzhi asked after a while:
"Would the young brother like to visit the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School?"
In truth, this was no longer just a casual question.
Ning Fengzhi had already clearly expressed his intention to recruit the boy with these words, though not directly.
Can anyone visit the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect just for sightseeing?
If that were the case, the sect would have been wiped out countless times.
"Not interested," came Lu Yuan's crisp answer, disrupting the atmosphere in the carriage.
With a slight twitch of his eyelids, Xue Qinghe looked at Ning Fengzhi with a hint of doubt and asked:
"Why not interested?"
"What can I say? I value my freedom a lot."
Lu Yuan casually fiddled with the teacup as he explained:
"Heaven Dou Empire, Star Luo Empire, Spirit Hall, and the major forces have strong control over their members. But I am a free spirit, and I dislike having people around me all the time."
He gestured lightly above his head, omitting a somewhat rude phrase, and then continued:
"Leave me alone."
After taking another sip of tea, Lu Yuan added:
"I know that among various forces, there are indeed some individuals who don't need to be controlled."
"But most people still do."
"Looking at those who are fully trusted by the higher-ups, they are all individuals who have been cultivated since childhood. Cough, a group of loyalists."
"As an outsider, especially one with my own ideas, which sect would treat me as their own?"
"There's no place for me in their inner circles, and I don't want to linger on the outskirts either. I want complete freedom."
With a helpless shrug, Lu Yuan asked back, "Think about it, isn't it normal that I'm not interested?"
Suddenly, the young man seemed to realize something, quickly waved his hand, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to use your country and your clan as an example, and I hope you will forgive me for speaking in haste."
Xue Qinghe smiled awkwardly. She couldn't intervene even if she wanted to. Lu Yuan had already addressed the issue directly, leaving no room for further discussion on reputation.
Of course, they could still pursue it if they wanted to, but standing on the moral high ground wouldn't be easy.
The little fox also took advantage of this "apology" to nod vigorously, full of meaning, as if she was saying, "See, I told you so!"
Xue Qinghe was aware of what the little fox was trying to convey before she cleared her throat. It was something along the lines of "a group of loyal dogs!"
Don't think that Xue Qinghe couldn't hear her; if her teacher, "Ning Fengzhi," weren't so astute, he might have gotten angry easily. Any other sect leader might have reacted differently and taken offense.
It's a pity that Ning Fengzhi doesn't hold grudges, but not everyone possesses his level of emotional control.
"Presumptuous!"
"Boy! Don't be arrogant! You must know that there are always people more powerful than you, and there is always someone greater!"
Chen Xin's sharp eyes were like two swords, piercing Lu Yuan's body. His tone was cold as he reprimanded the young man.
Gu Rong stood silently by, also supporting Chen Xin's opinion in his own way.
The atmosphere in the carriage suddenly became tense, even more awkward than before.
Xue Qinghe's heart filled with joy. With a look of concern on her face, she paused for a moment before trying to ease the tension, saying, "Your Majesty Sword Douluo, this friend may have spoken in haste."
"Then I take back what I just said."
Lu Yuan's sudden words immediately caught Xue Qinghe off guard.
Looking away speechlessly, Xue Qinghe looked at the strange young man sitting opposite her with suspicion.
Don't you realize I'm trying to help you? Even if you don't appreciate it, at least don't make things worse!
Your lack of cooperation is making it hard for me to help you later. One of the unwritten rules on the mainland: don't provoke a titled Douluo, or you may pay dearly.
So, if Lu Yuan were to refute Sword Douluo's reprimand now, it would be morally justifiable for Sword Douluo Chen Xin to kill him on the spot!
Although this moral justification is questionable, it's not impossible!
Stretching out his hand, Lu Yuan gently patted Xue Qinghe's shoulder. His voice was filled with a trace of happiness and confidence.
"I appreciate your kindness. But... If I am not even qualified to be presumptuous and arrogant.... Then the soul masters of my generation are even less qualified to be presumptuous and arrogant."
