Within six months of the attack, humanity lies on the brink of extinction. In an effort to salvage the last remnants of the species, a United Nations effort to advance and finalize the science of Whole Brain Emulation (WBE) is initiated. The technology scans the physical structure of the brain and copies it to digital form. Just over a year after the attack, the virus has killed off 90% of the entire world population.
