"I don't plan on becoming one of the guards, though do you guys have enough people? Or couldn't they transfer people with better skills than you for your position?"

"Look kid, the captain position isn't that great when I said that there were promising individuals ahead of me, those were people who probably, with enough time, would be promoted to run the place.

You're only supposed to be a captain for three years or so before being promoted to hold a higher position.

Though because I don't really try and I'm content with what I have I don't really strive for more, even if I do I'm not talented enough to snatch someone else's position either that or that person has to die before they consider me.

So they transferred people who could fill the important positions and sent some random people to fill low level positions.

See the big guy over there, the one with Meowth beside him. He came with the first batch of recruits over eight or so years ago."

The guy in question had a huge frame, a square jaw with brown hair, beard, and eyes. He held onto a spear as he turned towards it as he noticed his captain talking about him.

"The names John, and that's right I was asked to be transferred over here, and I agreed since I didn't have any family over at Pewter City.

But here I met the love of my life and had a kid, come look isn't here adorable." John quickly took out a picture of his kid who looked to be a baby within the picture.

'So cameras exist? I don't even remember what came before in my previous world, camera or television.'

"Y–yeah he's really adorable" I replied as that sent John into a spiel about how cute his son is.

Luckily Bren cut off the spiel, "Say kid are you heading out or did you just come to bother us?"

"I'm sorry for bothering you, I just need to ask some questions, and with the berries I've gathered me and Pidgey should be good for a week or so."

"Don't sweat it kid, sometimes it gets dull standing here at the gate, no one is ever here except for the occasional hunter when the other routes they have don't yield anything. 

Before the stampede we even had trainers come more often.

Now that I remember this morning a kid went out to the forest he must have seen you come back with a Pidgey and wanted to try it himself.

I don't think he will get as lucky as you, maybe he won't come back."

'Well he doesn't have my map. Due to it I could avoid any groups of Pokémon that showed up on the map, even if there was a resource icon near them.

That kid is nothing of my concern.'

Jin looked at the guard's Pokémon and activated his insight ability

Potential: Green]

It seems that if I don't own the Pokémon or the Pokémon doesn't consider itself as my own then I can't see much.

The Green Potential Raticate belongs to the Captain, two other Raticates with orange potential, John's Meowth is orange potential, two Sentret one red the other orange, two Butterfree with yellow and orange, and the last one is Shroomish with a red potential.

So far orange seems to be common is with five Pokémon, red and yellow tied with 2 and one green.

'My Pidgey must have good potential.'

Jin content said his goodbyes as found a quiet place against the wall he placed Pidgey down and asked Pidgey to use tackle and Sand Attack.

Pidgey struggled performing a tackle as it was not used to walking or hopping with its legs.

As for Sand Attack it simply involves Pidgey scooping dirt as it somehow turns finer as it tosses it forward.

'Kinda lame, I don't know why I was expecting something more flashy to happen, they are just basic moves.'

Jin and Pidgey were doing laps back and forth to up their endurance. After they were done Jin and Pidgey enjoyed the berries Jin had collected the day before.

A week had passed since that day and Pidgey's and stats have improved

Its wing is somewhat capable of being moved but just to be cautious Jin asked Pidgey to not force its wings much.

Through the week on the map Jin realized that the area he had explored would continuously update itself real time.

For example during this week the area Jin recognized on the map where he gathered popped back up showing an icon for resources.

Another would be Pokémon passing through the lit area staying there or eventually fading into the unknown.

'Honestly my third ability is quite overpowered in scouting and foraging. 

During the week Pidgey seems to trust me more than before so I can confidently hope that it won't abandon me in the face of danger.

Now that our berries are running low it's time to increase our supply and possibly hunt a Pokémon if the situation allows it.'

It was early in the morning when Jin exited the north gate he quickly made his way to the nearest resource icon that he recognized as a berry tree foraging the grown berries. 

Afterwards he kept expanding the fog little by little and avoided areas that showed clusters of Pokémon or an area where the Pokémon icon was ten times bigger than his Pidgeys.

As Jin was checking the map he saw three singular Pokémon icons going along the river where he had gathered the everstones.

So he headed that way hoping for a weak fish Pokémon so that he could have some long needed protein.

Though he trains and eats berries its not enough to get rid of the scrawny figure he has.

Along the way they gathered any mushrooms and berries that were along the way. 

When they finally made it to the river Jin saw three Magikarps in the water, all three having red potential.

'Well since all three of them have red potential causing him to sigh, I guess Pidgey's potential must be common.'

He ordered Pidgey to catch one of the Magikarps which after some struggle Pidgey caught one into its claws causing the other Magikarps to flee.

To celebrate their catch Jin made a fire so they could enjoy roasted fish for lunch.
