310. Gongsun Kang Captured

While he was perplexed by the siege engine, he saw the soldiers putting in something inside the holes of the engine, not just one of the engines but all of them which was done at the exact same time, and when he squinted his eyes he suddenly heard the loud voice of something they never heard before, like lighting but it's much more high pitched and hurt the ears more, before suddenly he saw hundreds of arrow being shot to the walls around him, where some hit the walls while the other hit his soldiers around him.

This caught him by surprise and terrified him, whenever he saw or heard something like this before. Gongsun Kang can only contribute this to a new discovery that Lie Fan's engineers, craftsmen, or advisors found.

Gongsun Kang retreated from the front of the wall, where he ordered his men to raise their shields to guard against the arrows that were shot by the siege engine and to not let their guard down because the speed of the arrows was much faster than normal ones.

When he retreated to a safer location, he saw another wave of those arrows being shot and managed to injure some men and kill some in the process, Gongsun Kang knew that only so many men could be lost as the number of soldiers he had wasn't much.

Before reinforcement arrived, he could only try to find some ways to minimize the impact of this new siege engine on the rate of casualties of his men, because if he didn't do so he could hold much longer.

With that thought in mind, Gongsun Kang and his men still need to defend themselves from the rains of arrows being shot down upon them, while on Lie Fan's side, he orders his army to rest since they had done some energy to march.

As for the soldiers operating the Hwacha, since it was easy to use and could be done by more than one soldier for efficiency and speed, Lie Fan let them continue to rain down arrows on Gongsun Kang and his men until they used half of the arrows used for Hwacha.

Since the founding of gunpowder several years ago then continued with Hwacha, Fire Lance, and Nest of Bees, Lie Fan has told his craftsman and alchemist to focus on creating the ammunition needed for the weapons.

The amount of weapons being produced was secondary compared to the amount of ammo needed to be produced, since no matter how many of the weapons they have they would be junk without their ammo.

So now Lie Fan has a large amount of stockpile for the ammunition of Hwacha, Fire Lance, and Nest Of Bees, so his ships and siege units could rest easy having a large amount of ammo to be used without waiting for transport from Huai'An.

Of course, the production of ammunition keeps going no matter if it's a time of peace or war, even though it has been expanded several times by Lie Fan not caring about the expenses needed since the amount of wealth he had from his industries was enormous.

Lie Fan was also waiting for the telescope to be finally made, which could unlock new industries for him which were Glass, since not only it be made to become a mirror that noble ladies would definitely love, it's decoration value was also immense.

The bronze mirror price will definitely fall with the mirror glass being discovered, but it's not a problem for him as that means he can make it so the commoners can buy it at a moderate price for their pockets, while the nobles enjoy the much more luxurious glass mirror.

Chen Gong: "Yes My Lord, I alongside Master Xun You have created our plan of attack to take down Gongsun Kang today, no need for us to spend a large amount of time taking down the town."

Xun You: "As Master Chen Hong has just said My Lord, you can see on the map in front of us, this is the ma of the town that the Oriole have managed to steal and perfect after investigating the town, it turns out that there's a secret entrance on the western wall which used to be used by the nobles to sneak out their wealth during the Xiongnus powerful raid in the past."

Lie Fan: "Oh? It must be an old entrance then, as it happened during the transition of the Western and Eastern Han, where they saw the weakness due to the changing power. So what do you recommend then Gongtai and Gongda?"

Chen Gong and Xun You then began to explain their attack plan, since the entrance was unknown to Gongsun Kang and his men, they needed to have their focus be on the main frontline.

So full-scale attack will be launched toward Gongsun Kang, leaving him with no time to shift his focus elsewhere and they recommend that Lie Fan personally participate in the attack, so that Gongsun Kang's focus will be on Lie Fan.

While all of that is happening, Ji Ling and Chao Bo lead all of their units to infiltrate the town through the secret entrance and take Gongsun Kang and their men by surprise, where they take control of the wall.

When the chaos was brewing inside and Gongsun Kang's focus finally split into two, the battering ram would then be able to break through the gate, and the rest of the army could enter to take down the town.

Ji Ling and Chao Bo also need to keep Gongsun Kang preoccupied so that he would not have the time to retreat or flee, since in the chaos anything could happen.

Lie Fan after listening to their plan agreed with it and had his generals do as Xun You and Chen Gong had explained, especially for Ji Ling and Chao Bo who played a very important role.

All of his generals immediately gave their acknowledgment and left the command tent to prepare their units, while Ji Ling and Chao Bo stayed to discuss their task with Chen Gong and Xun You.

2 hours passed by and everything was in position, Lie Fan followed through with Chen Gong and Xun You planned to have him lead the attack, so flanked by his bodyguards he rode Pangu while directing the attack from an obvious position.

Like what Chen Going and Xun You have planned, knowing that Lie Fan personally led the attack, Gongsun Kang led the defense and focused on it so much that he redirected many of his men to the other walls to defend this location.

A bad move by Gongsun Kang, as the Orioles on the Western Wall assassinated all the remaining soldiers left to guard the wall, allowing Ji Ling and Chao Bo to then use the secret entrance to enter the town.

The secret entrance has them pass through the inside of the wall, which is filled with a pungent smell, and when they finally reach the entrance to the town, they break through the entrance as it is blocked by something.

It created a loud sound that attracted the people to the town, before they could even realize what happened Ji Ling and Chao Bo led their men storming the town, the people immediately scattered fleeing the area as they didn't expect the sudden appearance of the enemy outside their town.

Not caring for the people of the town, Ji Ling and Chao Bo immediately led their men toward the Southern Wall killing Gongsun Kang guards and soldiers who either patrolled the area or heard the commotion.

When they reached the Southern Wall, they saw Gongsun Kang's men who were standing behind the gate in a formation in case other gate managed to be breakthrough, Ji Ling had Chao Bo attack them while he led his men to go upstairs of the wall.

Their sudden appearance took Gongsun Kang's men by surprise and soon the sound of battle filled the area, Gongsun Kang who was leading the defense was surprised by the sudden commotion he heard from below and it was from inside not outside.

He sends his aide to check what's happening down there and report back to him, then Gongsun Kang continues to focus on leading the defense where he hears the sounds of shouting that grow louder and louder like it is heading toward his direction.

He finally realized that something was amiss and when he saw Lie Fan's battering ram suddenly go to lead heading toward the gate, he ordered his archers to shoot toward Lie Fan's men that was pushing the ram.

When he finished relaying his order, he found that there was no arrow being shot toward the battering ram, the bad feeling inside his heart grew he brought the soldiers around him to leave the safe location he used to stay away from the Hwacha.

When he left the location, he was welcomed by the sight of his men fighting in the wall with Lie Fan's men taking him by surprise, and before he could relay an order to his men, Ji Ling who saw Gongsun Kang immediately led a handful of his best men toward Gongsun Kang, who in return also saw him and tries to flee but it was too late as Ji Ling was much faster and using his war trident handle he knock Gongsun Kang unconscious, capturing him while his men handle Gongsun Kang's soldiers.
