The following morning Mason reached for Ava with his hand but he found out her side of the bed was empty. His eyes flew open and he sat up on the bed, looking around the bedroom.
He glanced at the clock on his nightstand, 5:30 AM. He looked across the room and saw her through the floor-to-ceiling glass window, she was seated on the balcony with a blanket draped around her shoulders with her back to him.
Mason swung his leg out of bed and padded barefoot to the balcony to meet her.
"A penny for your thoughts?" Mason asked in a calm voice.
Ava turned her head to look at him, "Hey, you are supposed to be sleeping," she said in a soft voice.
"And so should you," Mason came and joined her on the chair. "Why are you not sleeping?"
Ava placed her head on Mason's shoulder, "I woke up to ease myself and couldn't go back to sleep. So I decided to come out here and get some fresh air."
