Chapter 10

I didn't want to face him again after the embarrassing scene outside but I had accidentally left my phone in his bathroom while tending to his wounds.

Stupid Hunter and his stupid pretty face.

I begrudgingly trudged up the stairs. The door to his room was half ajar and some voices came from inside. I crept quietly behind the door.

"...saw her leaving in the morning."

Mr.Arch.

"Yes sir, she stayed over." Hunter always sounded so different whenever he was with him.

"You're finally coming to your senses, should have done that a long time ago. I heard you told her, her mother's name."

How the hell did he know that? I peeked inside to get a better view of the situation. Hunter remained expressionless while his father had a small smile on his face.

"Yes sir, I-"

"Good, I like your strategy, gain her trust but don't say too much." There was a pause and then, "Remember the goal."

It felt like I'd been stabbed in the stomach. I staggered backwards into a hard body. Dylan towered over me, with a pitiful expression, "Violet, just hear him out first before jumping to any conclusion."

I swallowed back my anger before I did anything I would definitely regret later. Every bone in my body wanted to storm into that room right now and punch him in the face and break his freaking nose.

"We will see about that" I said curtly and stomped my boot on his feet. He doubled over in pain while trying his hardest not to make any noise.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He betrayed me. The only person I thought I could trust actually doesn't give a shit about me.
Secrets.
Still so many fucking secrets.
I felt a hand on my arm. Cora was looking at me with worried eyes.
"What happened, V?"
I nestled into her, "He used me, I don't know what for but I heard him talk to his father."
She gently caressed my hair, her voice soft as she spoke, "I always told you, you can't trust any of them. They are not your real friends, they don't care about you. Let's just forget about them, alright?"
Few moments later, we were emptying out Cora's mini fridge . I raised a brow when she kept pouring me drink after drink . I downed my glass of vodka and smiled to myself, feeling satisfied with the slow burn in my throat. I lied down and closed my eyes. Let's get this over with.
I felt her hand on my cheek, "Are you drunk?"
I remained unresponsive.
Slowly a cold hand slid to my neck and then down to the top button of my shirt. Her fingers were hesitant as they unbuttoned it. I could feel her face close to me and that's when I decided to open my eyes.
"Fuck! You scared me!" She immediately backed away.
I sat up and tilted my head at her, "What were you doing? Don't you think you should've asked me first?" I stared at her.
"V-Violet, you- were you not drunk? Did you fucking trick me?"
I laughed at her, "Are you serious, did I ruin your plan?"
Her expressions changed as she gave me her usual smile, "No you didn't." Pushing me to the ground, she got on top off me as her fingers began working again. Rolling us over, I locked her legs with mine, restricting any movement. I pulled out my gun and pressed it to her temple, liking the look of pure fear and horror on her face.
"You keep doing that, it's not fun anymore, " Clicking my tongue, I gave her a disappointed look.
Panic-stricken, she trembled underneath me, "What don't you get, Violet? I'm protecting you , I'm saving you. I can be your hero, we can escape all this together. Why are you acting so different?"
I started laughing," Hero?" Tapping the cold barrel of the gun on my head, I pretended to think, "Does that make me the fucking villain?" I let out a fake gasp, "I like the sound of it"
Untangling from her, I stood up, "I just needed an in so I could keep an eye on your activities.." I grinned down at her, "..It's not that difficult to live in my house without daddy dearest."
"What-what do you mean?"
"You really think I don't know how you and your father were ripping us off in the ammunition deals plus you also contracted with the low-life Santiago's which was against our contract , but I actually truly don't care about that, it was when you were creeping on me in the bathroom that I decided to call this house-playing deal off."
"You what- how?"
Squatting down in front of her, I pushed a strand of hair out of her face by the tip of my gun as she looked at me in alarm.
"Darling I was born into the mafia, you really thought I was that dumb."
Sneering at me, she slapped away my hand, "Do you even know what kind of secrets others are keeping from you? Hunter never told you about your parents did he? He knows a lot more than he lets on. Ask him how he knows your mother?"
I looked at her with annoyance, "Don't mention his fucking name. You're pissing me off so much right now. Do you know how much it hurts when someone you trust betrays you?"
She looked at me with disbelief and bitterness. Eyeing the gun in my hand, she spat," I think I kinda do."
"Hey! Don't make this about yourself, it's about me."
"But you just-"
"Shh." I quieted her to hear faint voice downstairs. Are they here already? I had messaged Chase with Cora's phone to come help me when we were drinking. She was so immersed in making me drunk, she didn't even notice.
Cora discreetly tried to swallow away her fear but it was evident on her face, as I raised my gun.
"Don't worry I'm not going to hurt you."
Her jaw dropped when with extreme force I striked myself in the head with the grip of the revolver. My vision blurred a bit but I maintained my composure.
"You're fucking crazy! What the fuck!!" She screamed.
I smirked at her and slid the gun across the room, near her. Then I dropped to the floor. My head hurts so much, I could feel wetness on my skull. Closing my eyes, I rested on the cool hard floor. The footsteps were near.
"What the hell did you-"
The door opened before she could finish her sentence. I heard several clicks of guns. A hand lifted my head into a lap.
"Hey, Violet."
Chase's voice was gentle, laced with worry, "I'm so sorry, I'll never you alone again."
