Folker vs Misty

Folker looked at Misty's figure with a surprised expression on his face but he responded with a smile.

"So that's what you meant by training. In that case, I'm in. Just a one on one though. It wouldn't be a good idea to travel with exhausted pokemon" Folker replied and looked at the surroundings for a suitable battlefield.

"That's great! Follow me. There's an area nearby with plenty of space to battle" Misty said with enthusiasm as she walked away. Folker nodded and followed her.

A few minutes of walking, they arrived on a river bank and faced each other for some distance.

"I'll use Riolu this time. I know you're strong but I'm not some pushover" Folker said with confidence in his tone. Misty nodded at his words and grabbed a pokeball. She then called out her pokemon.

Suddenly, a Starmie appeared and let out a sharp cry as it spun the starfish on its back.

"Starmie!"

"Riolu!"

Riolu responded with a cry of his own as it looked at the opposing figure warily with a frown.

'That's a bit troublesome' Folker thought to himself as he frowned. Looking at Folker's expression, Misty guessed what's on his mind.

"Are you a type specialist or not?" Misty asked.

"I plan to be a steel-type specialist" Folker replied.

"In that case, this is a good thing. You're bound to encounter trainers who would use ground, fire, and fighting types against you. I'm a water-type specialist by the way" Misty said with a smile. Both Folker and Riolu's eyes lit up on Misty's words.

'That's right! Strong type specialists know how to fight against their weaknesses. Otherwise, no one would want to become a type specialist if they're bound to lose against their weaknesses' Folker shouted in his mind in realization. He then looked at her with a grateful expression on his face.

"I see. Thank you. I better get used to situations like this early" Folker replied with a smile, not backing down from the challenge.

"Hear that Luca? Are you up for the challenge?" Folker said as he looked at Riolu.

"Riolu!"

Riolu replied with a sharp cry as its eyes showed determination and fighting spirit as it looked at Starmie.

"That's the spirit!" Folker cheerfully said and looked at Starmie's figure.

"Alright, let's start the battle!" Misty said as she raised her left hand and let out a command to which Folker just nodded.

"Starmie, use [Water Gun]!" Misty shouted as she swiped to the right and slightly bent her knees.

"Luca, use [Meteor Mash]!" Folker shouted in response.

Starmie blasted a forceful shot of water in Riolu's direction. Riolu approached Starmie's figure and fired a hard punch as fast as a meteor towards the shot of water. Riolu canceled out Starmie's [Water Gun] and continued heading towards it.

"[Minimize]!" Misty shouted as she clenched her right fist. Folker just frowned while looking at the battle.

Starmie then compressed all the cells in its body to make itself look smaller as it rotated the starfish on its back. Riolu closed the distance and let out a [Meteor Mash] straight towards Starmie's figure and hit it.

Starmie was pushed back from the impact as it fell down but it stood up and let out a sharp cry, indicating that it's fine, as it rotated the starfish on its back.

"[Work Up] and follow it up with another [Meteor Mash]!" Folker said with a smile on his face.

Riolu channeled normal type energy to rouse itself as it clenched both its fists. Riolu then quickly approached Starmie's figure.

"Starmie, [Rapid Spin]!" Misty shouted as she raised her right fist in the air.

Starmie then spun both the starfish on its back in opposite directions and avoided Riolu's attack as it jumped back and raised the distance between it and Riolu.

"[Work Up] once again!" Folker shouted and clumsily raised his right fist. He couldn't help but imitate Misty's enthusiastic command gestures.

Riolu then used [Work Up] and raised both its attack and special attack.

"[Psybeam]!" Misty shouted and swiped her hand to the right. Folker's eyes lit up when he heard those words.

Starmie then let out a peculiar ray of light towards Riolu.

"Use [Quick Attack] and dodge it, Luca!" Folker hurriedly said as he urged Riolu to dodge the dangerous [Psybeam].

Riolu dodged the [Psybeam] with its swift speed and quickly approached Starmie's figure and let out a punch and followed it up with [Meteor Mash] without Folker's command. However, before Riolu could hit Starmie, it used another [Psybeam] at point blank range and hit Riolu. Their moves hit at the same time.

Both Riolu and Starmie were pushed back from the impact. Starmie quickly stood while Riolu struggled to get up but it eventually stood.

"Are you okay, Luca?" Folker said as he frowned as he looked at Riolu's figure. This was the first time that Riolu disobeyed his command.

Riolu then responded with a sharp cry as it clenched its fists. Folker just nodded as he looked at Riolu's figure.

"Alright, use [Quick Attack]!" Folker said as he clenched his fists and let out an uppercut in the air. However, Riolu seemed to have other plans and just stood there.

Suddenly, Folker's eyes lit up! He detected something different from Riolu this time. He couldn't figure anything out and just narrowed his eyes as he looked at Riolu.

Misty noticed Folker's sudden change of expression and thought that he had an idea. 'Whatever it is, I won't let you!' Misty thought to herself as she smirked.

"[Psybeam], once again!" Misty shouted as she raised her right hand forward.

This time, Folker didn't respond with another command. He focused more on Riolu's figure and saw that it didn't move. He then took out his pokedex and scanned Riolu's figure.

Riolu was once again hit by the Psybeam but this time, it didn't fall down. It just grit its teeth and clenched its fists as it endured the attack as bright orange light surrounded Riolu's body.

When he saw the Pokedex entry, his eyes lit up!

It was at this moment that Riolu suddenly moved and swiftly approached Starmie's figure.

Riolu then let out a punching motion as bright, round orange light appeared on its right fist and punched Starmie's figure with all its might.

Both Misty and Starmie couldn't react on time and were taken aback by Riolu's sudden actions.

Boom!

Starmie's figure was pushed back from the impact as it spun wildly and fell on the ground. It fainted!

Folker raised his eyebrows in surprise and looked at Riolu's figure.
