Folker vs Corin

"Agility!" Folker screamed as he started the battle with a set up move.

Scyther then quickly moved forward but in a zigzag pattern, attempting to escape Golbat's sight while slowly accelerating its speed. Scyther is already normally fast. With the move Agility, Scyther is moving even faster.

"Golbat, Mean Look" Corin said lightly as he frowned while looking at Scyther increasing his speed.

Golbat then affixed Scyther with a dark, arresting look. Mean Look is a move that prevents the opposing Pokemon from fleeing from battle or from switching to another Pokemon.

It's not just a regular mean look on its face. It's a Pokemon move that uses Pokemon energy. A regular mean look would still provoke an opposing foe but it doesn't prevent it from fleeing or switching.

The Pokemon move Mean Look, on the other hand, amplified with Pokemon Energy, provokes its opponent that would erase the idea of fleeing from its mind and refuse to cooperate when a trainer decides to switch Pokemon.

Pokemon Energy is an energy unique to Pokemon. When used with Pokemon moves, it amplifies the strength of the moves as well as generate unique effects. Pokemon Energy come with different types.

For example, the Pokemon move Wing Attack uses flying type energy. It would then amplify the strength behind the attack. Flying type Pokemon are strong against Fighting, Grass, and Bug types.

If Scyther uses Wing Attack, that uses Flying type Energy against Hitmonchan, a Fighting Type Pokemon, the move would be super effective.

The Pokemon Type strength and weaknesses are connected to Pokemon Energy. It is what decides whether a certain move type is super effective against a specific Pokemon type.

Back to the battle scene, Scyther was provoked by Golbats Mean Look and looked at it fiercely. Nevertheless, it never stopped moving as it continued to increase its speed with Agility.

"Scyther, use Double Team to surround it and follow it up with Quick Attack!" Folker screamed hurriedly.

Scyther then moved swiftly, as afterimages of itself started appearing around Golbat. 10 clones surrounded Golbat as all of the Scyther images quickly approached Golbat and slashed forwards, without giving it time to dodge as its move hit it successfully.

The Scyther clones then disappeared as the real Scyther moved backwards to put some distance between it and Golbat.

Corin could only watch his Pokemon endure its opponent's Quick Attack. Nevertheless, he never lost his calm.

"Double Team" Corin said calmly and thought to himself 'You're not the only one who can use Double Team'

Golbat then flapped its wings faster; he moved around Scyther and surrounded it with Golbat clones.

"Scyther, use Double Team too and escape from Golbat's encirclement" Folker said as he looked at the Golbat figures that surrounded Scyther.

Scyther then moved forwards quickly as the clones reappeared beside Scyther as it attacked two Golbat figures in front of it and escaped the encirclement.

Scyther may have escaped Golbat's encirclement but Corin identified the real Scyther that attacked the Golbat figures and hurriedly said "Golbat, use Poison Fang on the one that attacked your clones"

Golbat then flapped its wings faster as it flew towards Scyther as its fangs turned purple and bit Scyther's shoulders.

Purple fumes rose from Scyther's shoulders, indicating that Scyther is in a poisoned state. Golbat's Poison Fang successfully poisoned Scyther!

Folker frowned as he looked at the poisoned Scyther and screamed "Wing Attack on its wings!"

Scyther then hardened its insect wings and flapped faster as it gathered Flying type energy and attacked Golbat's wings with Scyther's hardened wings. Golbat's right wing was hit and fell down for a bit but quickly recovered.

"Wing Attack!" Corin screamed, not intending to waste this opportunity to attack Scyther.

Golbat then hardened its wings and flapped it faster as it gathered flying type energy and approached Scyther and attacked it with its wings. It's super effective! Scyther's poisoned state slowed down its movement by a bit, which allowed Golbat to catch up to its speed.

"Wing attack again on Golbat!" Folker screamed.

Scyther once again flapped its wings faster and attacked Golbat with its wings. Golbat was hit by Scyther's wings and fell down with its eyes spiraling.

Golbat fainted!

"Golbat is unable to Battle!" The referee said as he swung a flag.

Corin smiled bitterly as he looked at the fainted Golbat and recalled it from its Pokeball. He held the Pokeball closely as he looked at it and muttered "You did well, Golbat"

Folker smiled as he also recalled the poisoned Scyther back to its Pokeball and said "Great job, Scyther!"

Folker then grabbed another Pokeball and called out his second Pokemon as it appeared on the field.

A small blue canine and bipedal Pokemon with red eyes and a black mask on its facce suddenly appeared on the battlefield.

Corin looked at the figure that just appeared and widened his eyes in disbelief.

'I can't believe I'd see this Pokemon here in Kanto. It's Riolu!' Corin screamed internally as he looked at Riolu's figure. Riolu's unexpected appearance may have surprised him but as an adult in a 12 year old's body, he quickly recovered from the surprise and called out his second Pokemon as well.

A figure of a small a humanoid Pokémon with a white body suddenly appeared. It has thin arms and legs that widen toward the feet. There is a wispy extension trailing off the back of its feet, creating the overall impression of a nightgown or oversized dress.

Most of its face is covered by green hair that resembles a bowl cut, but a pair of pinkish-red eyes is sometimes visible. There are two flat, red horns on top of its head: a large one toward the front and a smaller one at the back.

"Ralts!"

The figure let out a sharp cry as it looked at Riolu.

This time, it's Folker's turn to be stunned in disbelief. He didn't expect to see this beautiful Pokemon here in Kanto. But just like Corin, he also quickly recovered when he recalled Corin's earlier expression of surprise when he saw Riolu.

'This is gonna be interesting' Folker thought, looking forward to how the battle would turn out.
